It an advocacy Institution.Kenya Christian School for the Deaf was established in 2000 by Charles O.Syphero a Special Needs Educator, Dr.Peter O.Odongo a pathologist and head of faculty of medicine Maseno University and Cecilia Achieng, a social worker and community mobilize. KCSD is to addressing the needs of deaf children orphaned by HIV/AIDs a realization of their dream to address the challenges caused by the unprecedented decimation of an entire generation of children with hearing impaired Kenya. KCSD search for practical to assist in building sustainable communities for children infected with and affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic .Kenya Christian School for the Deaf relies on the support and donations from people of compassion. The board of directors was formed in Kenya to help see the smooth running of the institution.The center admits children of ages 5- 17 years old. The center also offers vocational training in Confectioneries courses and ICT skills for school dropouts and adults,. Medium of instructions are KSL and English. The kids we serve are deaf and orphaned by HIV/AIDS, some of these kids are under the care of their grandparents who are also sickly due to their age factor and poor living environment. Abject poverty is the continuous order of the day, the community and the Kenya Christian School for the Deaf compliments each in terms of needs. It is essential that society adapts their structures to ensure that all children irrespective of age, gender and disabilities can enjoy their basic human rights without discrimination of any kind. This applies to education systems which need changes and new innovative approaches to fit the specific needs of children with disabilities. Learning is about improving the academic performance, knowledge, and skills of children with disability and youth as the center for leading a healthy and productive life. An estimated of 300,000 thousand deaf children in Kenya are not in school and for those who do have access to an education, we do provide vocational skills and knowledge they need to succeed in life? KCSD works with community as partners to expand and improve young people’s access to quality education from delivering alternative education programs such as adult and continuing education to out-of-school youth to equipping rural schools with new educational technologies .
