SOOTHING AMBIENCE
Nairobi culinary scene has experienced a major shift in these three years (since 2017). We’ve seen a sprout of new cuisines served all over the city. Spanish Cuisine is one of the foods that “entered the chat”. Among the countable Spanish restaurants in the city, Picazzo is one that I got to visit.
DÉCOR:
Picazzo is a modern contemporary Spanish restaurant with an industrial style interior, ample balcony seating, lovely and flamboyant art, and wall paintings. It’s a cozy place with a stunning and tranquil ambiance.
FOOD:
Price range (Kshs.600- Kshs. 4000) Starters; – Grill Caesar Salad (Kshs. 900/=), roast chicken, smoked beef flakes and bread croutons, and Chicken Croquetas (750/=). Mains: – Beef Fillet grilled to a personal preference and served with a side of your choice. (1750/=) and Lamb Shack served with truffle mash (1750/=)
All these foods were strikingly & beautifully plated and they smelled so enchanting but the flavor was average and disappointing. No significant flavors or memorable taste which I understood as they were quite new in the market and they were probably setting in and finding what works for them.
DESSERT:
Churros served with hot chocolate sauce (650/=). The churros were fresh, crispy, and golden, dusted with the perfect amount of icing sugar. They were served with a chocolate sauce which was basically melted chocolate. As soon as the sauce was set on the table, it solidified. I requested the waiter to bring me another sauce and he brought the same one so I had to take away the churros and enjoy them fully at home. Carrot cake slice (650/=), this was so yummy, so moist and the cream cheese icing melted effortlessly.
DRINKS:
White and Red Sangria. These were too sweet and tasted like they had a sweet syrup added to it which made it so hard to enjoy.
SERVICE:
Service was average, the waiter was fully present for a few minutes and then disappeared for a long time, and getting another waiter or waitresses was hard by itself as they were busy with other tables. We had to wait for so long before being served. I’ll be visiting them again for another experience and of course to try out their paella.
