Beautiful place, but poor service!
For the first time in 2017, my nephew, sister In-Law and I went to Rolf’s Place for lunch as we took beautiful pictures of her since t it was her first birthday and we wanted to break from the norm. I had been looking forward to going to Rolf’s Place for some time, it looked amazing in the photos and had a number of good reviews on their website and the restaurant. It’s a good drive from Nairobi, the last 6-7km being a pretty rough track, but when we arrived at the parking and saw the place and the bridge it was really nice. The resort is located on the outskirts of Ongata Rongai. To access it, you have to leave your car and cross a suspended wooden bridge about 40 meters long to the other side of the gorge. the bridge is really fun and makes a great entrance If you are scared of heights crossing it can be a nightmare especially when you get to the middle where the winds are strong swaying the bridge sideways. One misstep could send you plummeting down to the huge boulders below. We were the only people at the restaurant since we arrived early in the morning, this was an added advantage to us since we received full attention. It’s sad to see the pictures I saw on the internet were quite different from reality, the place was no longer beautiful, it was run down! I remember we ordered food first even before we started taking pictures, this was to give them upfront to prepare our meal on time especially since we had a one-year-old girl. omg! the meal to so so long! we had ordered chips with Grilled chicken and soup on the side for the baby unfortunately when the waiter served us there was no soup he had to go back and prepare. Though the setup is charming and well done incorporating the African theme… And that Bridge is worth just walking across for… You can choose to visit the place and plan on eating further ahead at masaai lodge where there is better service or stay at rolf and wait for an hour and a half to be served.
