Great crowd, rugby and food
Rugby is my favorite sport, having played it while I was in my O levels, I would never miss this sport for anything. Safaricom 7s is run by the Kenya Rugby Football Union. The competition is one of Africa’s largest sevens tournaments and is contested by Kenya as well as numerous other nations and club teams. It is traditionally held at RFUEA grounds in Nairobi, but last year 2021 was held in Nyayo Stadium. Considered Africa’s premier 7-a-side tournament, the ‘Safaricom Sevens’ gives the rugby enthusiast an opportunity to enjoy extensive competition whilst immersing themselves in the distinctive Kenyan culture. With Kenya known throughout the IRB 7s fraternity as having the most fun-loving and raucous supporters, the ‘Safari Sevens’ is played out in an awesome intimate carnival atmosphere rivaling other destinations. This rugby tournament, named after a former chairman of the Kenya Harlequin FC, Alex Christie, has been running annually since 1964. The three-day event draws fans from all parts of the city and beyond. Fans sit glued to the grandstand bleachers around the lush green pitch, enjoying thrilling rugby action. In addition to the music playing in the background and rugby games on the pitch, fans had a lot to enjoy in the periphery. An adventure of a different kind was taking place behind the arena. Food booths included a mobile food truck with sumptuous burgers and hot dogs, and sizzling barbecues to satisfy the hungry crowd while Safaricom’s booth offered entertaining dances and music. Fior di Latte my favorite brought something different to the event. Its booth had farm-fresh gelato ice cream in a variety of flavors such as dark chocolate gelato and wild berry gelato. East African Breweries quenched fans with the leading alcoholic brand-Tusker. Teetotallers had a variety of drinks too. This should not be missed for anything especially if you are a rugby enthusiast!
