About Us

We call ourselves The Social House as we aim to be a Melting Pot for getting people together and because our way of doing things is perhaps just a little more personable and informal than some. And a touch off-beat: unusual cuisines; unexpected events; untypical meetings; unorthodox interiors; unconventional bedrooms; uncommon people. We have 83 bedrooms. 7 event and meeting spaces (some indoors and some out). 4 restaurants and bars. An outdoor pool. A back garden. A gym. And lots of surprises to keep things buzzing.

The place where poem is splashed across the wall in a font as delicious as the pastry display beneath it.

You see that poem up there? motioning towards an inscription on a high wall above is a lively cafe. This is The Social House for you! I believe when setting up The Social House, the owners and their team certainly took a road less traveled. A very close friend suggested we meet at The Social House for a meeting on the ongoing project we are currently working on. This was of course a perfect idea! I knew immediately after the meeting was over I was going to come back here and leave my review LOL! let me tell you there is no way from the outside looking in, you would even get a hint of the awesomeness that lies beyond their doors. I am a complete sucker for things and places that are pleasing to the eyes, so please understand, if all I did was look around and that was it, I would have been equally as satisfied. As you enter the building, you walk into a space called The Living Room, instead of a reception. Here, there are comfortable seats and a warmly lit study area. Suspended from the ceiling, in front of the wall with the Robert Frost poem, is a shuka-cloaked Maasai warrior riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Beneath this metal Maasai — affectionately known as Ole Rafiki — is a 24-hour cafe with a commercial coffee roaster. We settled outside in The Other Room, which is a farm to table experience with a gorgeous view of their heated outdoor lap pool. The Social House has different ‘rooms’ where different dining experiences are curated, depending on your choice or preference. We ordered a cheese platter to share, plus a Dawa each. Dawa is a mixture of copious amounts of lemon, ginger and honey. The cheese-cracker ratio is the only thing I’d change about this platter – and by change, I mean I would increase the amount of breadsticks or crackers. All the different types of cheese were so fresh, I’m convinced the livestock they were derived from transitioned that very morning. Something to try out when here. Let me surprise you, if you order Dawa and expect it to come in a tall wide glass, unfortunately you wil miss it! while other restaurants serve just plain Dawa, The Social House will love you to come back again for more thats why they give you cookies on the side as accompaniment. The Social House have various event spaces which are at the heart of the House’s communal ethos. They are well-suited to hosting a range of events, or ‘happenings’ as they are described on the website, from business meetings, art, drama, music and dance events, to yoga, fitness and culinary experiences, and even TED-style talks. The majority of these spaces are on the fifth floor with the Inca restaurant, and they each have their own unique character. This is one place I will certainly go back with hubby to now experience everything at a go.
