Ankole Grill is quite a popular restaurant chain in Nairobi, the restaurant has branches in Kitisuru and Kileleshwa/Lavington. We wanted to go to Ankole for the aesthetic, but we left with more than just pretty pictures and great memories. The premium restaurant offers a modern outlook in the suburbs of Nairobi. The theme is matte black. The design is modern, boxy, and engaging. The bar stares at you when you walk in and you may sit there or you may sit in the garden or further inside, which didn’t look too exciting. And if they are full— as they were — they will put a high table and stools in a patch of grass with a view. The service was so personalized. Jessica served us the whole time and she was so helpful and anticipated our needs at every point. If you are a meat lover then the mixed grill platter, including cuts of beef, pork ribs, chicken, Italian sausage, and Kenyan blood sausage (mutura) will satisfy your cravings. A side of kelewele (fried plantains) served with a trio of sauces, including smooth mango chutney is to die for. Twelve-hour smoked meats and boneless chilli goat bites (kauka), reminiscent of Nigerian asun, are also offered. Aside from choices for meat lovers, the menu includes vegetarian options such as coconut curry, Moroccan roasted eggplant stew, pizza (Kitisuru only), and sweet potato peanut butter uji (porridge). The crowd is uppity and very eclectic but most certainly everybody I saw had a forward fashion sense. I have had coffee here during the day as well, however daytime at Ankole Grill promises a fairly lonely experience in a vast space that only comes alive once the sun sets. I have never been here with kids however they have a kid’s menu. For those who take alcohol lemme give you some advice, I learned it’s best you get wine by the bottle. They have a variety. Whisky by the tot can make you faint if you aren’t from a wealthy family, LOL! . They also have a happy hour, from 4pm or 5pm. The place also has a cigar lounge, meeting rooms, events and conferencing facility. atmosphere

Ankole Grill is named after the iconic cattle breed of East Africa, which aspire to bring you a unique African steakhouse experience. I have dined in the one located in Kilimani on the Ground Floor of Senteu Plaza at the Junction of Galana on Lenana Road. The space is elegant, modern, and comfortable. I went there for my best friend’s birthday and had a beef burger and a milkshake while my friends tried the pizza and the cocktails. The food was Amazing! Brilliant service; we were treated so nicely. I will be visiting again. Thank you to the chef and the whole team for giving us an unforgettable day and making everything so unique for my closest friend’s birthday celebration.

The name of this magnificent place comes from an African cattle breed called Ankole watusi. From the name, you can tell that these guys are serious about their meat. The joint is located along galana road in center plaza which is a 30-minute drive from Nairobi CBD. Before getting to their food, let me just say how amazing the decor is. Simple and laid back but still has an intimate feel. The chairs are comfortable on the few tables that are there plus the booths come in handy when you want to have an intimate meal. The food ranges from kes500 to kes 6000 which is affordable considering the rich flavors that they offer. They also serve their food on these wooden artistic platters that look amazing. The service is amazing and the stall is always smiling. I love everything about this place. 10/10 would recommend.
