Barka Restaurant, a popular food stop in Mombasa that is accessibly located to cater for your Swahili food cravings, hot and fresh breakfast and a quick filling lunch. They offer a vast buffet style Swahili breakfast and variety of tasty Swahili dishes that leave you oh-so satisfied and yearning to be back whenever hunger strikes. LOCATION: – Barka Restaurant is located in Old Town Mombasa at the CBD, just behind Posta near the Central Police Station. Itās easy to locate and easy to get drawn inside as they have an outside shawarma setup with the most tantalizing looking and gratifying shawarmas, freshly prepared on order. DĆCOR: – Barka has a simple interior, a mixture of casual Swahili African and Middle Eastern interior thatās so modest. FOOD: – Their food items range from as little as (Kshs.50 to Kshs. 550). Barka have one of the very few affordable menus with an extensive list of homemade dishes. Breakfast: – I got to visit Barka and experience their buffet style breakfast and lunch. For breakfast I had their beef samosa (Kshs. 80), beef kebab (Kshs.80), mitais (Kshs. 10 per piece), viazi rojo (Kshs.80), katless (Kshs. 80 per piece), and mofa (Kshs.30) and milk tea (Kshs.50). The mitais and the mofa did stand out for me, the mitais are mandazis coated with powdered sugar mixed with coconut shavings and whew these were so delicious, Iāve never stopped thinking about them. Mofa is a scone like tea item thatās made from uji (porridge) flour so I had quite a time trying to register the taste as Iām more accustomed to uji. For lunch: – We had the chicken biryani (Kshs. 550) and beef pilau (Kshs.550) and tikka chicken (Kshs.350). All simple, scrumptious and let me tell you about those portions, such great value for your money and of course stomach. DRINKS :- (Kshs.155 each) we had freshly blended fruit juice as we sat there with our itis dragging us into that food coma sleep. The mango and passion juice were perfectly made, plain fruity vibes with no added sugar or syrup . Barka is an unavoidable stop , and quite irresistible due to the palatable meals and reasonable pricing they pride themselves in.
