“A Lakeshore Walk with the Impalas”

Set on the shore of Lake Victoria, the largest freshwater lake in Africa, the Kisumu Impala Sanctuary is a peaceful, relaxing place to enjoy the natural beauty that abounds here. The sanctuary hosts impalas, the rare Sitatunga antelope as well as big cats, buffalos, giraffes, cheetahs and several primate species. The sanctuary is also home to five campsites all with spectacular views of Lake Victoria. Bird watching, nature walks and glass bottomed boat rides compliment the activities availed at the sanctuary.

I live in Kisumu City and genuinely speaking we don’t have that many tourist attractions. This Impala Sanctuary is one of the few that actually is our saving grace. It’s located by the lake and a view of Lake Victoria is guaranteed. The view of the lake is not even the last of it ,when the sun is setting ,the beauty of the aesthetics it creates on the lake is unmatched. They have a section called Sundowner that’s perfect for this. This wildlife sanctuary serves as an escape from Kisumu city life in order to just relax. The entrance fee is as follows:for resident adults it’s 300 kshs, resident children 100kshs, non resident adults 2000kshs( the rates could be different by now) and finally non resident children it’s 1000kshs. I’ve gotten to see a wide selection of animals here .I’ve seen lions, lionesses, leopard, baboons, hyena, buffaloes, giraffe, cheetahs, bushbucks, patas monkey, bush duiker, tortoise, warthogs and so much more. The range will not disappoint you. I’ve come here severally and on some instances I just went to have a tiny picnic with a couple of friends. They offer several picnic locations, around 5 and you can get to choose where you find more convenient. The best part of my picnic was that they had a tiny “kitchen” where anyone who was feeling enthusiastic could walk right in and whip something up.The tour guides were enthusiastic and very informative on all my visits. What I don’t like about this place however is how the lake has lost it’s beauty and it’s not the same anymore. So much weeds is all that can be seen over a span of land and it’s rather disappointing honestly.
