True Taste of Kenyan Cuisine
Your tour of Nairobi City Centre would be incomplete without a stopover at K’Osewe on Kimathi Street…I mean even Zuckerberg ate Fish there!!! How cool is that!! Whether you’re in town for shopping or any other business, Kosewe should not be missed by anyone. Nairobi just like any other city in the world has its good share of exotic 5-star hotels. Mostly that’s not where you want to be if you want to get the true Kenyan experience. K’Osewe offers culinary diversity, clearly reflected in the many Kenyan culinary traditions in terms of choice of ingredients, style of preparation, and cooking technique. They have something for every plate! The need for a quick lunch after a long morning of shopping made us rush to Kosewe. Lots of other restaurants around the same area also. Up a flight of stairs with our shopping, we went to the famous ranalos. To order one goes to the cashier and literally picks one of the receipts that are already punched and ready to be paid for. Prices are fair for such a place. The food was brought within a few minutes quickly and efficiently. The place fills up very quickly at lunchtime and we were lucky that we came early. Clean and comfortable. Its rooftop semi-inside/outside location is perfect for those warm Kenyan evenings. Authentic African menu at its best! Unlimited choice from Tilapia , omena chicken ,Aluru, Aliya ,boiled beef to wet fry. Osuga. Lisusa, akeyo to dek amongst other traditional veges. Brown/ white ugali .Al this drowned with either fresh juice or a favorite soft drink. My three favorite dishes are: coconut fish, athola(smoked beef), fried chicken & all the traditional veggies ( managu, kunde, sagaa etc). I especially love their swanky. If you’re into music from East and Central Africa (Rhumba, Benga, Soukous, Ndombolo) and you enjoy dancing to the beat and melodic sounds of a live band, Friday and Saturday nights at Ranalo’s is for you.
