About Us

Lake Naivasha is a beautiful freshwater lake, fringed by thick papyrus. The lake is almost 13kms across, but its waters are shallow with an average depth of five meters.Lake area varies greatly according to rainfall, with an average range between 114 and 991 sq. kms. The lake and its surroundings are rich in natural bounty, and the fertile soils and water supply have made this one of Kenya’s prime agricultural regions. Much of the lake is surrounded by forests of the yellow barked Acacia Xanthophlea, known as the yellow fever tree. These forests abound with bird life, and Naivasha is known as a world class birding destination. The waters of the lake draw a great range of game to these shores. Giraffes wander among the acacia, Buffalo wallow in the swamps and Colobus monkeys call from the treetops while the Lakes large hippo population sleep the day out in the shallows.

Hippos Paradise!

5/ 5

On our way to Lake nakuru National Park we took this excursion, We have know Lake Naivasha to be the place where you can get up close with Hippos, this is the kind of adventure I love! Our boat ride was with an experienced guide that lasted for an hour. It was both relaxing and educating at the same time. We were surprised to learn that there are more than 450 bird species being recorded here. As we cruised on the lake, our guide pointed out different birds to us. We spotted numerous pelicans, yellow-billed and marabou storks, herons, cormorants, ibises, Egyptian geese, fish eagles, and many other birds we couldn’t even name. We also had the pleasure of watching a Giant King fisher catching his fish! spectacular views I tell you! We were very pleased to see several large groups of hippos enjoying themselves in the water until the topic of hippopotamus attacks came up. At which point, I began to question my desire to see more of them. As our boat ride ended, we passed by properties that were completely submerged in water. This area experienced months of torrential rains, causing the lake the overflow its banks. It was quite sad and surreal to see the results of this flooding first hand. All in all Lake Naivasha is definitely worth a visit. Strongly recommend it.

Outing at the cray fish

If you are a fan of camping, you have probably heard of Cray Fish camp in Naivasha. It had for some time been a favourite for many for weekdn gateaways with partners or family. It is a 15 minute drive from Naivasha city center. It nears the Lake Naivasha. I was there a while back when I was in High School. I really enjoyed my time there. They welcomed us so warmly. We got our own conference hall since we were quite a number. We had lunch then went for swimming. They have a good pool and luckily there weren’t many people there at the time. We also got to do horse rides and camel rides at the ground. This place is good if you have kids. They will really enjoy. What I did not like was the accommodation. It was a little dingy. Would not recommend spending the night there.

wedding at the lake

4/ 5

Lake Naivasha, located 97km form Nairobi CBD, is another area of tourist attraction within the Great Rift Valley. It is from the maasai name Nai’posha meaning rough water. The story is that the winds causes the water to rise at times and have rough waves. Wildlife such a hippos reside in the shallow waters of the lake. You can go for a boat ride at a cost of 1500/= and get very close to those huge creatures. There are also over 450 species of birds around the lake. The stay on the yellow barked Acacia Xanthophle that fill the shores of the lake. That many species of birds make Lake Naivasha a major source of international tourism. There are a lot resorts and lodges around Lake Naivasha and therefore, if you are looking to visit, you will surely find something that suits your needs. Over the holidays, I got the chance to visit Lake Naivasha Resort for my cousin’s wedding. That place is beautiful. It is a huge resort right next to the lake. The lawn is beautifully manicured with Acacai trees in strategic locations . The resort has a huge pool that charges 500/= for swimming. The rooms in the resort range from 20,000/= to 25,000/= per night. I would highly recommend a stay at the Lake Naivasha Resort.

Sunsets by the lake

4/ 5

Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake in Kenya, outside the town of Naivasha in Nakuru County, which lies north west of Nairobi. It is part of the Great Rift Valley .Afternoon wind and storms can cause the Lake to become suddenly rough and produce high waves. For this reason, the local Maasai named the lake Nai’posha meaning ‘rough water’. When I visited Lake Naivasha, I was hosted at Burch Resort. It is a small hidden gem with a couple of cottages and an open field for those looking to camp. The resort is right at the shore of the lake. I noticed that much of the lake is surrounded by forests of the yellow barked Acacia Xanthophlea, known as the yellow fever tree. After putting our luggage away, we decided to go for a boat ride. This was quite the experience. We paid 1500/= for one boat to take us for an hours ride. You are provided with life jackets before boarding. The first wildlife we saw was the hippos. There we so many of them. There were also some giraffes wandering among the acacia. While also on the boat, we got to see so many birds on the trees surrounding the lake. Guests on other boats had all these professional cameras and huge binoculars. The guide tells us that this place is a world class birding destination. While at the end of our ride, we witnessed the most magical sunset. If you’re planning a safari trip to Kenya, Lake Naivasha should definitely be on your bucket list.
