A Hidden Gem in Nakuru
”Maili Saba Camp is a real hidden gem. We arrived after a long day driving and circuit of Nakuru national park to find inviting friendly staff, that swiftly checked us into the hotel and got us settled in the rooms. Rooms are clean and well presented. Room 10.B, Our room overlooked the crater and was large and well furnished had the most spectacular views! At the onset you might overlook or be unaware of this most exotic and special place, simply because it may not be recommended by a tour operator as it is based out of the Nakuru National Reserve and is a 30 minute drive uptill there. However , this place shouldn’t be missed for all its worth and what it provides! firstly, it is based on top of the Menangai Crater and your camp stay there overlooks the crater. The views are spectacular and breath taking. One can spend the whole day just sitting there, soaking in nature to heart’s content and observing the crater . The tents are very organic, authentic and gives you a total camp feel with all luxuries attached. At Maili Saba, there was no buffet thankfully, it is an a la carte menu and make to order. And may i say, it is the most delicious food we had. I cant forget the zucchini salad, the vanilla ice-cream and banana split, the delicious vegetables and rice that i savored and the family gorged on some spectacular meat dishes.. so fresh, so tasty!! The camp has a phenomenal social outreach programme, where they hire locals , train them in hospitality and assign them work at the camp. The proceeds are also used for development and training of youth for the hospitality industry. Great job Maili Saba Camp!! We loved our stay there and would like to come back for more.. For the traveller willing to branch away from the norm of a park based lodge Maili offers an excellent alternative”.
