Mama Ashanti Limited Kenya (Mama Ashanti) was established in 2014 as a limited liability company in Kenya. It is located at plot number 3734/13 on Muthangari Garden road in Lavington, Nairobi. It spans over 849 square meters of indoor and outdoor bar and dinning areas, including an outdoor children’s playground.

With over 50 capable employees, it is a restaurant which offers authentic West African cuisine in the city of Nairobi, Kenya’s most cosmopolitan business environment and populated city. The business owes its origin to Mama Ashanti ltd Uganda which was in existence for 8 years and was marked by its success and popularity as the leading West African restaurant in Kampala. Mama Ashanti Uganda has now relocated to Kenya.

Its name strikes the chord of African pride and maternal care. Ashanti is a tribe from Ghana in West Africa which birthed the founder of Mama Ashanti Uganda, Akuamoah Boateng. The Ashanti tribe is associated with female strength.

Mama Ashanti is targeted at providing good quality home cooked meals at a reasonable price. Nestled in a welcoming, restful family-oriented setting it is a much needed fulfilment to the craving of West Africans in diaspora for a taste of first class home food. It is also an opportunity for the East African who desires to participate in the much-publicised West African experience. It brings the essence of true West African dining to Kenya.

The evolution of Mama Ashanti has come about from the recognition of the need to provide authentic West African meals in an international standard that breaches the gap between customers of all races with different pallets. With a wide range of grills, starters, soups, and meals, Mama Ashanti prides itself for excellent food made from imported West African ingredients and spices. It also provides a variety of continental dishes prepared in a West African style, thereby managing to remain West African while appealing to an assorted variety of clientele. This is the major distinguishing factor of Mama Ashanti from other West African restaurants.

WEST AFRICAN CUISINE IN NAIROBI

View All

4/ 5

I bet most if not all food lovers and spicy food lovers have West African Cuisine on their cultural cuisine exploration list. Personally, I would love to visit Ghana, watch them prepare their meals from scratch and eat everything I can possibly get my hands on. For now, the nearest I can get to West African food is Mama Ashanti. Mama Ashanti is located at Lavington Nairobi, nestled in a large pleasant garden setting, engulfed wholly in chilled family and corporate meeting vibes. They have a wide range of starters, soups and grills all which are prepared using imported West African ingredients and spices, so each meal is cooked to order and freshly prepared. Mama Ashanti prepare Nigerian and Ghanaian home cooked meals with a modern twist at an affordable and reasonable price. FOOD: – (Price range from Kshs. 250 – Kshs.2000) 1. Whole Grilled Fish boneless (Kshs.1750) Fresh boneless tilapia fish marinated in Ashanti Sauce, charcoal grilled and served with fresh kachumbari. This was well cooked, juicy and perfectly marinated. 2. Quarter grilled chicken (Kshs. 800) marinated in Ashanti sauce then charcoal grilled served with kachumbari. 3. Fried plantain (Kshs.650), diced and deep fried plain plantain. Mama Ashanti serve up the best plantain I’ve ever tasted.

Kenyans have quickly come to love Mama Ashanti, a restaurant that serves West African food, specializing in Ghanaian recipes. West African cuisine is known for its spice and caters best to those who can handle lots of chili. Favorites include egusi (fish), pepe (a fiery goat soup), and plantains (both spiced and non-spiced
