About us

Under The Radar is inarguably Nairobi’s best-kept secret. It has an adventurous new flavor to its palate. The pepper steak is made tasty. tender and so soft such that it requires little chewing and some mouth-watering pepper chicken accompanied by starch and salad of the day. The starch is inclusive of rice, french fries, and mashed potatoes.

Our wall of creations, ideas, and most importantly: food.
UTR isn’t a restaurant, it’s a lifestyle!

Amazing place to hang out with your kids

If you are a family and you’re looking for a chilled restaurant where your kids can enjoy both food and facilities then Under the Rader is your place. Located along Argwings Kodhek Rd in the Kilimani area, you will find Nairobi’s kept-secret restaurant and bar. The good thing is the restaurant is accessible by a matatu number 46 from town which will take around 15 minutes with no traffic. We were here over the weekend and I am not surprised how my sister found this hidden gem. We were welcomed by the very courteous staff to the serene and clean garden with a background sound of sweet live jazz music. The restaurant has different locations for your different needs. It has a bar, an in-house restaurant in bandas and now the garden restaurant. We opted for the garden restaurant. The garden restaurant overlooks the playground so you can keep an eye on the kids while they are playing. The playground is free!! Not so many playgrounds in Nairobi are free especially during weekends. This is the time they usually overcharge the parents. It is also super clean as you have to remove your shoes before you enter the playground. They also have someone leading and guarding the kids during the games. Being a Sunday we were happy to catch the live that entertained us throughout. The live band was really amazing. Not too loud, just the good amount of music you need to have a conversation with your loved ones. We ordered Pizza and few different platters containing different meals like chicken, beef, pork and lamb. The side portions did not disappoint as they served a very generous amount especially the fries and salads. I really loved their grilled chicken, fish fingers and the chicken fingers. Trust me to taste every food that was brought to the table. Their fresh juice is served in a very tall wide glass which I felt was really worth it considering it was 400 shillings per glass. That was my most worth it item from the menu. The chicken and fish fingers were also generously served. A restaurant I would highy recommend for families.

Good food, friendly service

My sisters and I stopped here for a snack on our way back home. We had the fish finger, chips, and soup as an appetizer. We also had a chance to eat the burger offer on buy one get one free and unique cocktails. The food was mouthwatering and delicious. Our server was excellent, friendly, and knowledgeable. I would stop in again if in the area. The restaurant is located on Argwings Kodhek Road Next to Radar Security, Nairobi, Kenya, and 2.9 miles from Nairobi National Park. The restaurant is child friendly, providing a huge children’s playground, and it’s well equipped.

My favorite spot while in Kilimani.

Kilimani is home to several hidden gems and this is the case for Under the Radar. It is located some 25 minutes from Nairobi CBD and a cab cost about kes 300. I’ve been in Kilimani twice and this has become my go-to place for dinner and beer. It’s an open space with a manicured lawn. The table and seats are set under tents so you know you’re not in just another building. I like the staff there, cheerful and inquisitive about my day. You know the times you have so much in your mind that you don’t want to speak to anyone. A conversation with their staff seems to raise my mood. Their price range is fair. The last time there I had bbq chicken burger. Not the best I’ve had but I was starved so I eat it in a flash. The other time I had pork ribs and fries which were delicious. They also have live bands at times. A good place to spend a lazy Saturday afternoon.
