1) Kapsimotwa Gardens
Kapsimotwa Gardens is a serene and secluded property on the Nandi Hills, approximately 60 km from Eldoret town. It’s one of the most beautiful places you’ll visit in Kenya. To get there, you’ll drive through the picturesque Nandi Hills. The hills and valleys are covered by miles upon miles of tea plantations and trees. You then get to the gardens which are nestled in a forested location. The grounds are well manicured and tendered to daily. There’s a huge pond in the middle of the grounds with ducks and geese swimming in it. It’s the perfect destination to have picnics, sightseeing, and just unplug.
2) Two Rivers Dam
Two Rivers Dam is found along the Eldoret-Nairobi Road and is one of the two major dams that supply water to Eldoret town; the other is Chebara Dam. The dam is picturesque and the roaring sound of massive volumes of water can be heard from miles away. It’s a good destination for sightseeing and you can take off your shoes and deep your feet in the shallow river formed after the dam.
3) Kesses Dam
This natural dam is found in Kesses town and is one of the sources of the Yala River. It’s huge and a breathtaking site to behold. While there, you can hire a boat from the locals and go for boat rides or try your hand at fishing. You can also swim on some specific sides of the dam. To the locals, the dam is considered a sacred site and a place for prayer and offering sacrifices.
4) Sergoit Hill
Sergoit Hill is a rock outcrop and a landmark that rises up above the Uasin Gishu plateau. It’s estimated to rise to approximately 2,090 meters above sea level. The cool climate, the viewpoint of the lush grassland, and the surrounding wildlife sanctuary make it a good destination for hiking, game viewing, and sightseeing.
5) Koromosho Falls
Koromosho Falls is found on River Sosiani, approximately 20 km west of Eldoret Town. The water pours down a 70 meters cliff that separates into a V-shaped divide with a rocky escarpment on one side and grassland on the other side. It’s an ideal destination for hiking while enjoying the thundering sound of water falling. The falls also serve as a source of hydroelectric power during heavy rains when the river overflows.
6) Naiberi River Resort and Campsite
Naiberi River Resort and Campsite is in Eldoret, approximately 20 km from the CBD, off the Eldoret-Kaptagat-Eldama Ravine Road. It sits on 10 acres of hillside with a forest cover that is home to over 200 species of birds. The resort has a unique stone cave restaurant that’s unlike anything you’ve seen before. There’s also a swimming pool, nature trails, and River Naiberi passing through the grounds.
7) Greenwoods Campsite and Resort
Greenwood Campsite and Resort is found approximately 10 km from Eldoret town along Nakuru Rd (A104). The resort is set in a tranquil environment, within a traditional African village. It’s surrounded by natural woodlands that are home to a variety of bird species. It offers the ideal destination for relaxing, taking nature walks, camping, and bird watching.
8) Lobo Village
Lobo Village is found in Kapseret, approximately 15 minutes from Eldoret town. It sits on 13 acres of lush green land and has a dam in the middle of the property. The village also has a natural stream flowing through it (perfect for dipping your feet on hot days) and a water pond on the same property. Lobo Village offers a number of outdoor activities including; camping, canoeing, archery, fishing, among others.
9) Chebara Dam
Chebara Dam is located approximately 63 km from Eldoret town on the border between Eldoret County and Elgeyo Marakwet. It’s fed by Moiben River which streams from Embobut Forest within the Cherengani Reserve. The dam is one of the two main sources of water for Eldoret town, the other one is Two Rivers Dam. Chebara Dam sits in the middle of a natural woodland which is a haven for various species of birds. The locals hire out their boats so visitors can go for boat rides or even try out fishing.
10) Kerio Valley Viewpoint
Kerio Valley lies between the Elgeyo escarpments and Tugen Hill, at an elevation of about 1,000 meters above sea level. The viewpoint is in Samitch Resort, approximately 40 minutes from Eldoret Town. The cold breeze at the viewpoint is something to keep in mind. You get a spectacular view of the valley, the Kerio River, and a fluorspar mine in the valley.
