Nanyuki is a small town in Central Kenya that is known as a gateway to Mount Kenya and Mount Kenya wilderness . Nanyuki town is known for farms, ranches, game parks and wildlife conservancies and is a great town to escape to and enjoy the tropical climate as it sits on the equator. Nanyuki has evolved to be an incredible town for exploring , sporting and enjoying nature. Here is a list of my favorite Nanyuki restaurants that you can explore while in Nanyuki town.
1.) SALTBUSH BAR AND GRILL NANYUKI
Saltbush bar and grill is located at The BinBan, Kassim Plaza, Kenyatta Highway Nanyuki . Saltbush bar and grill is the perfect venue for a get-together , bringing the best barbecue , Indian food and chilled music for the best hangouts.
Saltbush Bar and grill is named after an evergreen shrub that is native to the North, East and Southern Africa and is considered a multi-purpose shrub. It’s fruits can be eaten raw, cooked or dried and stored. It’s leaves and young shoots can be used to make healthy salads.
Saltbush bar and grill have an extensive menu that you can enjoy , from finger foods to shawarma and traditional German sausages. Their menu is full of Indian vegetarian meals that are cooked to perfection.
They open everyday expect on Tuesdays from 11am to 10pm.
2.) URBAN SMOKE KENYA
Urban smoke is located along Nanyuki Rumuruti Road that serves Indian cuisine , Italian cuisine, pizzas, burgers, cocktails, smoothies that are crazy delicious and fresh. Besides food, they host sports screenings and set up a fire when it gets cold in the evenings.
Urban smoke have a wood décor interior and the Big Five animal cravings is a nice added touch to the feel of the restaurant.
Urban Smoke also have a tours and travel company called Urban Adventure that help you plan your Mount Kenya exploration safaris. They customize travel packages according to your needs and budget.
Urban Smoke is open daily except on Tuesdays from 11am to 11pm .
3.)RANDALL PLACE
Randall Place is a restaurant , bar and accommodation spot in Nanyuki that offers bed and breakfast as well as cute little pastries for the soul. Randall place provides a great place for travelers to relax after a busy day of sight seeing around Nanyuki .
Randall Place has a sports bar and camp accommodation that is perfect for families and couples .They are well known for making the best pastries in Nanyuki and a barbecue grill that you can enjoy straight from fire to plate meals so do check them out.
Randall Place is open from 8am to 9pm everyday and they have happy hour at 4pm to 7pm daily too .
4.)ONE STOP SHEPHERDS HUTS
One stop shepherds’ hut is a convenient place for travelers to drop in on the Nanyuki -Nairobi highway next to the Nanyuki airstrip.
One Stop Shepherds is perfect for every kind of traveler as its endowed with so many facilities that make your visit easier. They have stress free parking, child friendly spaces, hair and beauty salon , children’s playground , clean washrooms with nappy changing area , plant nursery , dog friendly & veterinarian and a mini shop for travel essentials.
One Stop Nanyuki is a perfectly peaceful, cozy spot to start exploring the wonderful area around Nanyuki with tasty meals and great mountain views.
One Stop Nanyuki is open daily and they offer social hockey and sundowner night every Tuesday from 5pm .
5.)DOWNTOWN NANYUKI
Downtown Nanyuki is a creative hub in downtown Nanyuki that is known for art and design, cocktails, tattoos , fashion , coffee and food.
Downtown is located in The Sportman’s Arms Hotel and is open daily except on Tuesday’s from 10:30 am to 11pm . Downtown’s setup is rustic and lined with African fabric and has small business setup selling their merchandise . They serve generous food portions and they encourage creatives to showcase their talents .
Downtown is where the party is in Nanyuki and they greatly support dance groups by letting them host their nights . Highly recommend visiting them for a night out, you won’t be disappointed with the pure vibes radiated by the party goers.
6.)NOOK KENYA
The Nook Café and Bar located at Haile Selassie Drive is a cozy , laidback and refreshing restaurant that provides plenty of outdoor seating, entertainment and a cozy atmosphere to enjoy a wide assortment of drinks and specially made cocktails at the Nook Bar.
Nook Kenya aim to create a hidden gem , a sanctuary where people can relax and unwind. They have a variety of seating areas where diners can choose to sit, as well as a large garden restaurant and bar. Nook Kenya’s menu changes every week as they introduce completely new menu items that are inspired by dishes from around the world and each of their dishes is carefully thought out, not only to taste great , but also to be healthy and nourishing .
Nook Kenya offer a separate outdoor garden, bar and lawn area for hire. This caters to guests hosting private functions.
The Nook is open Tuesday to Sunday and closed on Mondays from 12pm to 9pm. If you’re looking for something incredible, different and out of town, The Nook is the place to be.

7.)CAPE CHESTNUT RESTAURANT
Cape chestnut restaurant located at Nanyuki Hospital Road is a well established coffee house and a garden family restaurant situated close to the Equator in a quiet and scenic location.
Chestnut offer high quality gourmet fare, coffee , tea, snacks and refreshments including beer, wine , and spirits by only using the best locally sourced ingredients prepared by a team with an unsurpassed passion for serving fine food.
With a legendary warm and friendly atmosphere in the covered patio and surrounding landscaped gardens including a children’s playground and creche, combined with the amazing dishes served from the kitchen, a n exciting and exquisite Friday tapas night or their Sunday curry buffet.
Cape Chestnut is open from 8am to 5pm daily .
8.)LITTLE WINE BASKET
Little Wine Basket located next to OilLibya ,Nanyuki . They are a specialty wine delivery service based in Nanyuki that caters to wine connoisseurs and wine lovers alike.

9.)SOAMES HOTEL KENYA
Soames Hotel and Jack’s bar is a small out-of-town hotel and restaurant located along the Nyeri-Nanyuki highway 7km from Nanyuki town on the main Nanyuki -Naro-Moru highway.
Soames is a classic contemporary style establishment with a clean cut modern look, simply and tastefully furnished . Soames offer accommodation with a restaurant , free private parking, a bar and a shared lounge. At the hotel the rooms are equipped with a desk, bed linen and a patio with a garden view.
Soames Hotel serve ala carte and full English breakfast options and you can play tennis or go fishing at their fishing grounds .
It is a great place for a quick meal out or an over night stay .
10.)SHOP 14 NANYUKI
Shop 14 located at 114, Old House Road is a deli and café located in Nanyuki , selling delicious goods and wine and serving lunches and dinners. Shop 14 is generously stocked, has and amazing and beautiful ambience, with an outright cheerful energy to it.
Shop 14 is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 8am to 10pm .
I highly recommend Shop 14 for a chill time over wine and good food.
