Board game cafe
I’m not sure if I should say this, but I finally gave in to the pressure my sisters and friends have been sending my way. I always like to visit new places/restaurants/cafes and explore not because of the pressure, but because I think I should after doing my own research. Well, this time around they did outnumber me I should say. Bao Box has taken living room game night with family or friends and blown it up, with their board game café concept to eat, play, and socialize. Their idea is to unplug from the instant gratification of social media and being attached to our devices, by doing the opposite of providing customers with a wifi password. Bao Box has a charming interior, with chalkboards placed against the backdrop of ambient lighting, wooden furniture, and Maasai-shuka-inspired throws. Their seating area is inside and outside – on a chilly night, they give you the shukas to warm yourself up with, which is so appreciated in this dire weather. The premise of the place is also great – no one else is really doing the whole bar-and-board games gimmick that Bao Box do, and they’re doing it well. They have everything from Cards Against Humanity to Exploding Kittens to the more traditional Monopoly et al. Our visit was strictly for libation and laughs. We ordered a side of halloumi fries to share and the halloumi did what halloumi does – understood the brief. I ordered the KnoCowt stir fry, while the rest ordered the Bao buns and the Player burger with spicy fries. I did like how we were attended to, the service was very fast, and not forgetting the big smile we were given by our attendant as she served. The next agenda for Bao Box is to try out their board games and turn a night in into a night out
