For a long time, I can confidently say that Mombasa was not in the limelight when it came to restaurants that offered different cut meats until Char Choma came in and took Mombasa by storm. I have been to a number of restaurants that serve different types of cut meats, but I tell you there is no restaurant that has managed to offer what Char Choma offers. Not only is the quality and quantity good, but the experience is something you will remember. My siblings and friends decide to spoil ourselves without the kids In Mombasa, we needed a restaurant that was on the beach with great ambiance and Char choma came highly recommended. As we entered, we were welcomed by friendly security staff, immediately we saw the butcher’s counter, this is where all the magic starts. The concept is you choose your preferred cuts of meat. The restaurant allows you to customize your own dining experience based on how much you can eat and your taste. (chicken, beef, lamb, and pork) which are weighed per 100 grams from as low as Sh65 depending on the choice of meat. You get to choose whether you want your meat charcoal grilled or oven-baked although at an extra cost. The same goes for the sides like fried rice, potato wedges, sautĆ©, fries, ugali, etc. All meals are freshly prepared on order and are super tasty. We opted to go for all types of meats both grilled so that we could all have a taste of everything at go. The ambiance compliments the dining experience as it is mainly a sea-view restaurant that offers different sitting experiences. The inside feels warm, and laid back, and has high ceilings and eclectic dĆ©cor that brings the space to life. It is also quite spacious and private. The top deck doubles up as the bar area and the atmosphere shouts ācan-we-grab-a-drink on a Sunday afternoon?ā. It is beautifully furnished with low white and grey seats and one rocking seat at the corner. Then, there is the outdoor space – the patio and the tents by the beach, where you get to bask in the sun and enjoy the soft touches of the ocean breeze on your face and the grains of sand on your feet as you enjoy your Nyama Choma. An early (late) evening will give you a view of the sun sinking into the horizon of the ocean, with a cotton candy view of the sky. The restaurant also has a children’s playground and an open-air swimming pool fitted with slides and swings to satisfy the curiosity of the kids, besides building sand castles on the beach. Actually, the swimming pool is the first feature you will notice as you walk into the restaurant. All with a picturesque view of the Indian Ocean. These features make it a restaurant to seek out when in Mombasa. Not to forget the DJ on site plays the best music to suit the time and mood. You can as well put in a request for a song you’d like to be played for.

One of the best places for family hangouts. If you go there alone or as a duo-date, it’s very likely you’ll feel out of place. The pool is quite small but okay, and you can access the beach from the hotel. The menu offers a wide range of meat to choose from and they offer delicious accompaniments too. Your food is made from scratch so quantity, quality & freshness is guaranteed. The sauces that come with the food are finger-licking good! They also offer live band music to entertain you as you enjoy the cool breeze from the ocean. Also it’s A really good restaurant if we’re comparing with the options around this area. Certainly not the most affordable but the beachside setup and restaurant layout is close to none. The outdoor seating area is the place to be during the day and the bar seating at night offers quite the ambience. Do visit. Service is professional and efficient. I rate this restaurants as one of the top best beach restaurants in #Mombasa. Amazing open air space, delicious food, friendly waiters and above all great prices. I couldn’t believe the portion of the foods, one plate is enough for 3 people. Tried the potatoe wedges…it was only 550ksh (5.5$) and we ate it 3 people plus carried the remaining takeaway. Not forgetting the ribs Omg!I loved them so much and they were so many I got to carry some home. And also the starter soup with bread slaps when hot I also had the lamb which wasn’t bad as well It was well cooked and garnished Also the vegetables that came along with it which was spinach I believe with some Ugali And they had this avacado mixed with tomatoes and onion mixture which was epic itself The list is long but I highly recommend this place The food, the ambience and service is just amazing And your kids also get time to play I give it a 10/10 to be honest I forgot to say that we also had the sautee potatoes and I loved them They were deadass good And we’re a lot My friends had different drinks which apparently I can’t remember their names but we had a good time We made memories, laughed, even had a meeting while we ate good food and they are memories that I’ll forever cherish

Charchoma Restaurant is a lovely dine-in, bar and grill lodge located along the Mombasa-Malindi highway. It is one of the few beachfront restaurants in Mombasa therefore offers a magnificent view of the Indian ocean as you enjoy one of their delicious Swahili and seafood cuisines. I have visited Charchoma once when I was on holiday at the Coast and it is a place I look forward to visiting again once I’m back there. The first thing you’ll notice upon entry into the restaurant is a huge beautiful pool just a few feet from the entrance which is a feature I hadn’t seen in the other dine in restaurants I’d been to. The dining area is well arranged and out in the open so it ensures each table has a degree of privacy and minimal interferance from other people. I loved the fact that each table has a nice white umbrella shade matching the white tables to ensure you enjoy your meal without dying from the scorching sun. The place looks so amazing and you can get a chance to walk to the beach after your meal. The waiters came up to us with their menu and we ordered some cocktails first as we waited for our main meal. The chairs are quite cosy so we took our time taking in the beautiful sunset and nice breeze. We had their famous pork ribs and wedges & pulled pork burgers. We had a nice chill evening and took a walk on the beach later. Camel rides are also available at a fee on the beach. The views Charchoma offers are nothing short of breathtaking. Their portions are really good and their lodging prices are also quite affordable considering the great services they offer here so missing out on such greatness next time you’re here is definitely on you!

Got to love this place, the front sea view is to die for right by the beach. The restaurant has a wooden deck set-up and also a kids play area. It had a good ambience and I loved the breeze from the sea. My friend and I had a difficult time getting to the restaurant because itās very hidden and there are no signs anywhere pointing to its direction. It is located off Malindi-Mombasa highway, along beach road, in between Aga-khan cottages and Whitesands. The place plays really loud music so I wouldnāt recommend it if you want a chilled and quiet atmosphere. However ,if you are a lover of live bands , it is the perfect place to visit, usually on Wednesday and Friday evenings. We both had lamb rack cuts that costed 500 KES each which comes with a side of choice and with some sauces to go with. I had that with a mango smoothie which costed 400 KES. You can either choose your meat to be grilled, pan fried or baked. We chose all choma choma… The lamb was all tender and really good, well incorporations of flavors. The sides were great too, enjoyed them to the last bit. The drinks were also really good and refreshing. The service was slow cause we had to wait for a long time before the food was brought to our table and the wait staff were a bit disorderly, but the food was amazingg!! I would definitely visits the place again with my nephews for a swim and let them make use of the play area.
