Dining in the sea breeze

5/ 5

I love the ocean; I don’t know exactly why, but I think it’s one of the most intriguing and beautiful things in the world. English Point Marina offers one of the best views of the Indian Ocean in Mombasa, and that’s why this is my favourite place in the city. In the morning you get to witness the beautiful sunrise over the ocean, and at night you can have your dinner while listening to the sound of the waves crushing into the sea wall. It really is an incredible place. English Point Marina is in a really accessible location, you can get there either by uber or using a tuk-tuk. I highly suggest using a tuk-tuk. Taking tuk-tuk rides is honestly the most exciting way to travel around Mombasa. I highly recommend it. To get there we took a tuk-tuk at Nyali Mall, it dropped us right at the gate of English point. We got there right before sunset and ordered a burger. Lucky for us, it was burger week. For each burger we ordered we got one for free. As we waited for our order, we walked around the marina enjoying the scenery. It was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. We went to the deck next to Sunset lounge, and from there you could see Mombasa City and Fort Jesus across the creek. After half an hour our order was ready and we went to eat on the restaurant chairs lining the deck, so that we could enjoy the breeze. English point has three restaurants: Karahi, Magherita and Sunset Lounge. The restaurants sell a wide variety of food including oven grilled pizza. I really wanted to try it out, but my friends convinced me to try the burgers first. By the time I finished the burger, I was so full I couldn’t even eat more fries. So, eating the pizza was out of the question. But I’ll have to do it next time am there. The price of food at the restaurants was quite affordable, which surprised me. So, I highly suggest you try it out, its rare to have a fine dining experience without breaking the bank. Am planning to be visiting English Point Marina whenever am at the coast, and maybe next time I’ll get a chance to stay in their hotel rooms.

It is generally a modern living complex located in Mombasa. It offers accommodation in the form of luxury apartments with hotel like facilities .English point aĺlows you to indulge in a fantastic exciting experience with all their amenities. The restaurants takes you on an a whole journey making this easily one of my favorite dining locations in Coast. Its such an amazing place to relax and unwind from all the Mombasa heat.Personally I never got to enjoy the insane accommodation service they offer, but I know it goes for around 10,000 per night. The apartments are usually 3 bedroomed with state of the art facilities. My most revered thing when I visited was the sound of waves as I ate.The sea that was just right there;stretch out your hands and you can literally touch the it (hahaha jk).For our meals ,we ate prawns ,burgers and several grilled platters which had lobsters.I have to say that the food took quite a long while to come which was very disappointing. We had to wait for around an hour. The platters cost us a total of 6,500/= and it was very filling. If you want a meal with a view, this is the place for you.The ocean breeze will soothe all your problems away leaving you very relaxed.

Glorious views of the Indian Ocean at the Marina

4.67/ 5

The restaurant at The Marina is one of the places you must dine at when you visit the Kenyan Coast. The restaurant is located in Nyali, a twenty-minute cab ride from Nyali town. Nyali town gets really busy around rush-hour with traffic so we took longer than expected to get there. The Marina has accommodation, a private beach, and a restaurant. However, only residents have access to the private beach. The restaurant is located at the beachfront at an altitude of about fifty metres and supported by pillars. You can walk right up to the edge of the restaurant and take it all in where there are a metal and glass boundary.

This location is perfect for sundowners and having a drink or a meal while watching the sun setting over the beach.  The floors are wooden with comfortable seats and shades over them.  There are several restaurants to choose from but we wanted one outdoors with a clear view of the ocean. We took our time before we ordered since we were taking it all in.  It was around 6 pm so it was breezy – I would recommend one to carry a fleece or jacket.

We ordered burgers for a party of 5 with a side of fries for all orders. The view and serenity that come with it would be enough to get me to come back to Marina again because the service was dismal, with our food arriving an hour later.  The burgers are not that great, considering we had to wait an hour for them. However, we were determined that we wouldn’t let anything ruin our experience and we had our dinner to the calming noises of waves splashing in the ocean. The burgers cost around 11$ each. The restaurant is certainly child-friendly and family-friendly.
