best birthday activity

If you are in Nairobi and you are in the proximity of your friends, for sure you have going for paintball. If you haven’t, make a point as soon as possible. I would completely recommend. The the laughs, the spills, the pain, the winning and the losing. For my best friend’s birthday, we decided to see what all the hype for paintball is all about. We booked the one at waterfront. It costs 1500/= per person for 1hr 30 minutes of play. A cab from Nairobi CBD costs 650/= We were to be there by 11am but you know african timing, we got there a 12:30 and found that our slot had been taken. That was a bummer but the guys there we generous enough to slot us in after the group that were currently playing. We got more than enough time to meet the instructors, be instructed on safety rules, put on the overalls, chose team captains and the respective groups. We were also shown how to use the guns and were each given 150 paintballs. The way the place is designed with jungle terrain, it looks like a scene from a shooting game. The goal is to take the flag of the competing team. Pretty easy right? When the paintball hit me, I remember screaming. I can’t remember if it was pain or just the thrill. This is a very good team building activity and a must redo for me.

I’ve always wanted to try out paintball since I’m low key a big fan of call of duty. So a week to my birthday, my friends and I decided to book a slot at waterfront. It was during the holidays and a getting a slot on weekends was difficult thus the early booking. We were charged 1500/= per head. Each person gets 150 paintballs and to get refills you pay 500 for 50 paintballs. I remember how excited I was that morning. I know how crazy traffic in Nairobi is on Saturday so I made sure we got out of the house an hour to time. A cab from Nairobi CBD cost us 630/= Waterfront is really beautiful with the slides and the restaurants. We got there and found another team finishing up. This gave us ample time to meet the instructors, put on the overalls, divide into groups, choose captains, get 150 paintball in the gun and be given the game instructions and safety rules. All this time I was grinning inside my mask. I couldn’t wait for it to start. We waited at the booth then the whistle went off. You hear gun sounds and screams. It takes a minute to take it all in and be composed but after that, it was so much fun. My team won, no doubt. It was such a memorable experience. Would definitely recommend.

This is a thrilling game that everyone must try. When my friends and I decided to get there we booked a space 2 days before because weekends tend to have more people than weekdays so walk in might get you waiting for long hours..at a cost of 3000kshs which accounted for 2 people and when we got there it cost the remaining people 1500ksh each. We did not experience traffic being a Saturday but again, Nairobi traffic is unpredictable. There is ample parking space at waterfront but again it’ll depend on the number of customers there the day you go there. On arrival we were received by our contact person but there was another group inside the court so we definitely had to wait for them to finish their game. During this time we were given overalls and helmets to prepare for our game. We were not given shoes/boots so please wear appropriate shoes or pack some that you will change into. Our guns were loaded with 150paitballs each. 2 instructors then took us into the court, we were divided into teams and then given rules of the game plus safety tips on how to handle the guns and each other while playing. The place is more like a jungle terrain full of shrubs and trees and the ground is not level in all places, this makes for very good gameplay. The game session lasted 2 hours but towards the end the game was stopped and we were given an opportunity to to target shoots for some of us who still had paintballs. If your paintballs end before the game, you can buy more! One thing to know for people with insect phobia….you might meet insects that bite especially if it is a wet day so be careful. We really enjoyed it out here and it’s an experience worth repeating.

I still demand a rematch!

Paintball fury is a park located at the Waterfront, Karen. My friends and I went there on a Saturday afternoon, after having called them prior and booked a 1 hr slot from 1pm to 2pm. Getting there was a complete hustle, with us getting stuck in busy Nairobi traffic and having to weave our way through traffic. Saturday mornings are quite busy in Nairobi and using a “bodaboda”, which is the local motorbike transport, is way easier. We arrived at the Waterfront which has a huge parking lot. The mall has a huge water park with slides and bouncing castles. It also houses several restaurants in case you’re hungry and is the perfect place for you and your family to have a nice weekend outing. The mall is kid-friendly and children of all ages will have access to the Waterfront if they can swim. We made our way to the Paintball arena. As you approach you can hear the sounds of the guns and people screaming at each other. We were a few minutes late and they had given away our slot to a group who had already arrived so we had to wait another forty minutes. They provide overrals which you change into. The overalls were few, old and dirty but we had no choice if we wanted to do the activity. There is a booth in which you leave all your bags when you enter the paintball arena. We wore our overalls and waited for the next group to finish their game. In the meantime we selected team captains and chose team members. The paintball experience is wonderful for competitive people as it involves using tactics and using your senses, taking care not to shoot people who are on your team. After the referee blows the whistle, the game starts and you are supposed to steal your opponents flag. The game was well-coordinated by the facilitators and we had a great time. They explain the rules of the game before you enter in detail and provide you with the paintball guns. I loved the experience since it was my first time trying out paintballing and it surpassed my expectations. I would love to go back for a rematch since unfortunately, my team lost.

Adrenaline Heaven

Paintballing is the perfect team sport for adrenaline junkies and stuntman wannabes like my friends and me. And Paintball Fury, located at The Waterfront – Karen, was the battleground we chose for this adventure. The Arena situated right next to an artificial lake filled with ducks and other peaceful creatures are quite serene. But all the semblance of peace and serenity disappears when the paintballs start flying and grown men and women start screaming in pain and agony.

The staff was quite friendly and helpful to beginners in our group. To first-timers, the sport often feels intimidating and the staff was really good at calming their nerves. We were provided with protective clothing and helmets in all our sizes. The clothes were cleaned and sterilized to ensure they were safe for use in line with COVID-19 health guidelines. However, shoes aren’t provided, so make sure you bring comfortable shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty.

The more friends you bring, the better, as you are divided into two teams. Team green and team black. The match lasts 1 hour 30 minutes at a cost of KSh1500 per person. Each person gets 150 paintballs and refills are KSh500 for 50 paintballs. The Arena is big and lined with obstacles which made it perfect for our long gunfights in Team Deathmatch. Which we lost, but deserved to win?. However, we got our revenge in capture the flag where our careful style of play and meticulous nature proved helpful due to the numerous obstacles that were good for cover.

By the one hour mark, we were exhausted and could hardly run between cover. After finishing up our final match, we bandaged our wounds (Yes…. the paintballs can cause bruising) and ate some food in the mall overlooking the lake. The price is fair for the activity and I plan to return to Paintball Fury soon. I highly recommend Paint Ball Fury for the adrenaline junkies out there.
