The Talisman Restaurant situated in an old house in Karen was originally occupied by the famous wildlife photographer and author Alan Root in his youth. Talisman was created by Ian and Charlie Cameron as a small family and friendly kitchen restaurant.

Stuart Herd and Satyan Patel took over The Talisman in 2012 with a promise to maintain it’s values. The Talisman has since grown into arguably the best restaurant in the country with Chef Ray Cournede leading the team.

Value for the environment is part of the most important cultures at Talisman. Evident from the ambience and the look of the restaurant itself.

We are 100% plastic free zone, maintaining an organic garden that supplies some of our fresh produce. All our vendors are vetted and we conduct hygiene tests on supplier products. We use Bamboo straws and all our water bottles are recyclable. Our partners – Takataka solutions ensure that our waste management is done in the highest of standards.

Welcome to The Talisman for your best dining Experience.

Masterclass in service and quality

4.4/ 5

Talisman is a masterclass in how to train the staff to be attentive, prompt and professional! Immediately after seating the waiter arrived and asked for my order and whether I wanted a drink. The ambience is homey with lanterns and flowers at each table. The indoor plants add a garden atmosphere that’s is welcoming And charming! I ordered a Negroni, Samosas and a burger with fries.

I am a Negroni fanatic and talisman’s didn’t disappoint. It was expertly made and the blood orange added a colorful delight to the drink. Five stars for taste and presentation! The feta and coriander samosas were deliciously and the chilli ginger jam that came with it took it out of the park. Highly recommended as a starter.

I ordered a medium cooked burger and the beef which was holistically raised and grass fed was delicate and deliciously flavored. Fries were not too salty or oily but crisp to taste. The restaurant was filled with wananchis and tourists alike. I felt well treated by the staff equally! Overall a delightful experience!

The only ding I’d give talisman is that the smoking section and the non- smocking section are next to each other. I had to breath cigarette smoke through out my dining experience.

Highly recommend for a date night or a special event in your life.

Perfect date with my partner

Located in an old house Karen, this restaurant is the go-to place for a romantic dinner. Perfect decor with amazing lighting. You need to reserve prior because it gets packed quite early. The ambiance is fantastic with a few fireplaces around here and there. We were lucky to sit next to one and it was the highlight of our night. The service was amazing. The staff is well trained. Very prompt in attending to the customers and giving suggestions on the best dishes. The food was very tasty. I enjoyed every bite. We had the chargrilled fillet steak which was KES1850 and the chicken which was KES1400 as the mains. We had ice cream for dessert. The prices here are on the higher side so come prepared. Its, however, worth it. You’ll enjoy your meal and the vibes. Perfect place for intimate dates.

Cosy garden setting offering well curated food in Nairobi.

The talisman was originally a tiny old house but it’s grown into one of the very famous dining locations in Nairobi .It’s located in Karen. It’s quite a distance so if you are planning to visit this restaurant that’s something to consider. Anyone who has visited talisman in the late hours of the day can appreciate the importance of making a reservation. It gets really filled up especially by the locals and getting a seat can become quite cumbersome. They have a whole organic garden and most of their produce is from this same garden. I visited this place on a Friday evening for a nice little candlelit dinner we had quite a blast from their menu. For starters we had their tempura prawns and twice cooked pork belly both of these dishes were 1050/=. The prawns had a little bit of teriyaki to it and the pork was glazed in honey soil. For our main dishes we had their Thai red sea food and beef lasagna. The Thai red sea food was 1950/= and it had little prawns and squid together with vegetables. The lasagna was 1650/=. It had slowly cooked beef with mushroom and bacon that was topped with a parmesan salad truffle. We were quite full after and none of us could really stomach desert. For the drinks we both had mocktails that were both affordable at 500/=each. I felt like the prices were a little high in comparison to their tiny potions this was expected because it’s located in Karen and the clientele from here would not really mind generally dining in a garden eating pretty well done food is a vibe and I definitely recommend. There were firepits around and if you felt it was getting a little bit too cold you could snooze and cuddle around them.

Fine dining in lush green Karen.

Talisman is the kind of place you want to go for a fancy date with your lover. Say that birthday dinner, anniversary dinner or no occasion – just romance! Located away from the hustle of the city in lush green, quiet Karen, it is the perfect hidden gem. We did not have a reservation for dinner and were lucky to find a table. I would recommend you to make a reservation, just in case because the restaurant is quite popular. The decor has warm tones and a couple of fireplaces and fire lanterns for light and warmth. The main dining area is semi-private and outdoors but under a shelter. You can opt to sit indoors if that’s a preference. The concrete floor is interrupted by plants at the edge and the breathe of fresh air while dining is serene. They offer you a blanket when it gets chilly in the evening. I was in the company of two of my girlfriends and we had a three course meal each. I do not exactly remember the names of the meals but I had the fish fillet as the main course and the flavors were amazing. Each course goes for about 12$-20$ each, certainly on the higher end. The plating is amazing and the portions are filling. We spent about 40$ per person. I had a slice of carrot cake for dessert, which was plated with a side of ice cream. This was absolutely delicious. I vowed to certainly go back to Talisman for a romantic night filled with great food.

Talisman is an elegant gastrolounge located in Ngong road Karen .Its a fine dining establishment dedicated to offering quality dining experience. It’s located in sort of a garden and gives a very homey natural vibe from it’s environs. One important thing is visiting talisman especially during the peak hours should be done only after a booking has been made.If not , you’d be really inconvenienced because of waiting in line :most of their tables are usually full.We ordered mimosas which were priced at 1000 shillings. We then ordered food which was relatively pricey in comparison to the portions which were also relatively small.I had to spend alot of money to just get full.If you’re a heavy eater I would definitely not recommend it.I also felt the food was somewhat bland. However ,the ambiance made up for it.We sat by the fire on a warm cosy couch and there was so much intimacy offered by the calm surrounding . The dessert that was served was also very sweet just to my liking. Oh and the cheese samosas were also very nice.Very cheesy. I would recommend but remind one that you’d need to spend generously. I would rate it 3.7/5.
