The Moorings

During our most recent visit to the coast, we got the pleasure of visiting the floating restaurant. Honestly, it was a surprise from our trip organizer and boy was it an amazing experience. We were from snorkeling and were having a cruise along the Mtwapa Creeks. Out of nowhere, the boat starts moving towards this thatched roof. We got to the shore and he tells us that this is where we’ll be having dinner. I was mind blown. I can still remember the excitement. It’s beautiful and so huge. We were a group of 10 and we still got space even though there were other guests there. But it’s advisable to make reservations. We had platters of mixed seafood and beers for some and cocktails for the rest. The sunset was spectacular. I bet I took hundreds of photos. A must-visit if you’re in Watamu.

The Moorings is a restaurant set on a floating raft in the Mtwapa Creek just right on the border of Mombasa and Kilifi Counties. The food is delicious, the staff is polite and amiable, and the surrounding landscape is astonishing! There is a wonderful breeze that causes you to forget the heat and humidity that you might experience in other venues. The Moorings offers particularly an impressive array of seafood that actually tastes better than you might find at other seafood restaurants. I had their seafood with my 3 friends and it was so satisfying with bursting flavors all at a cost of 7000ksh so it’s best to have this option with more people as it’s quite a lot plus the cost sharing is an added advantage. They also make lovely refreshing cocktails that compliment your meal. In addition to the lovely ambience provided by the strategic location right in middle of the ocean, the sunset views are precious! Absolutely picture perfect and delightful. The experience is essentially stunning! The Moorings also offers a Sun-downer Cruise tour of the creek on a dhow at 19$ per person. I’ll fr this out on my next visit!

My sister and I went for a lunch date to this popular floating restaurant. I was so excited and thrilled as I had heard of it from several people. It’s location is very convenient since it’s located just 1 km after Mtwapa bridge in Mtwapa town. We found the place with so much ease, and as soon as we arrived the security guard advised us on where to park the car since the parking lot is outside. The path leading to the restaurant was so serene, which led to a walking bridge. The place has a great waterfront setting and spectacular view of the ocean and the yachts. There was a natural breeze from the ocean, giving it a casual breezy atmosphere. They have an assortment of meals on the menu, including sea food which I particularly love but we both opted for fries and crispy chicken wings which came to a total cost of 1900 KES. I loved the tangy taste of the chicken wings which blended well with the chilli sauce, I would definitely recommend that meal. The wait staff was super friendly and service was good. The place offers a variety of fun activities, like boat rides and karaokes( on Saturday nights). I would certainly go back for the karaoke nights because I love singing? It’s a good hang out place for large groups of friends and family, or even a romantic dinner date. I would highly recommend the place for an awesome experience.

Moorings is a floating restaurant located on the North coast. It is situated on top of Mtwapa creek. It offers such a tranquil experience. Such a serene location. The view during the sunset is utter divinity. A whole level of perfection. I went here on Friday evening with a couple of friends. Of course, the first thing that caught our eyes was the environment. It’s a nice cozy little restaurant suspended on top of the sea. A little scary at first. Actually, that wasn’t the scariest part of it all.

There are some trails that get you to the restaurant and when you look below all you see is the ocean. I had to hold a hand and close my eyes as I walked by. Those with a phobia of the sea should definitely avoid it. On settling, we ordered calamari platters, seafood pizza, and a bottle of wine. Spent around a total of 3400/= for the whole meal plus drinks. The pizza was tasty and spicy just how I like it. During our visit, there was karaoke going on. It was so lovely. Everyone in the restaurant was full of life. I literally sang my lungs out. Too bad I didn’t end up winning the “meal on the house ” prize that was up for grabs. Despite that, I totally enjoyed my visit here. My favorite memory from that night was singing Justin Timberlake’s “Mirrors” and having the whole restaurant joined in unison. A night for the books.

I seldom have the pleasure of dining in (on?) floating restaurants every day so my dinner at Mooring’s Restaurant surpassed expectations. The sensation of buoyancy as you walk into it is thrilling and the restaurant itself is a sight for sore eyes. The restaurant is located in Mtwapa, Kenya. It is about 700 metres from the main highway and we arrived in our cabin about ten minutes. It is located right by the sea in a place with low altitude and where multiple ships dock.

The staff informed me that they offer boat rides as well. The restaurant is a nice place to try out seafood but they also serve pizza and other fast food options. It was a Saturday afternoon and interestingly, this is also karaoke night at the restaurant.  After we had a quite satisfactory meal of pizzas and one Long Island later, my friends and I had the loveliest night singing to karaoke and having the best time.
