You need that steak and beer.

This is a very popular spot for many Nairobians. This is due to its location, the amazing decor, and their delicious food. It’s located some 10 minutes from Nairobi CBD and a cab cost about kes 250. It’s right next to the highway with a short driveway leading to the parking lot then the restaurant. One thing I like is how much detail they’ve put into their decor. The terrace has some couches and several seats. The view of the highway is soothing. You walk in, first is the bar then several tables. They have a blend of rustic, a lot of plants all with a white background. Their prices are a bit high but the food is worth every penny. I usually indulge in steak and some beer but you have to try their milkshakes. Out of this world. Nothing short of heavenly if you ask me.

I’ve already gladly sold my soul to the freak shakes in Urban eatery I’m not making any further transactions in future .

When Urban eatery finally gets to see this review I hope they know that I will willingly become their freakshakes spokesperson at absolutely no cost. All I need is a little more urban shakes on a daily basis preferably to lift my spirits and maybe get me in the mood you know?What I’m trying to say is that for me Urban eatery is home to my favourite freaks shakes. Generally I have a very sweet tooth and anything that’s sweetened is definitely something after my own heart. My dentist tends to disagree with me alot on this but I will always tell him the heart wants what it wants. This restaurant is located in Westlands .It’s very easy to find so there’s no hustle and on a good day without traffic it’s only about 15 minutes from Nairobi’s CBD.It offers a chic and modern dining experience to it’s customers .The food here is prepared by some of the best Chef’s and they recently had a launch for their new Kitchen with Sarova which I’m absolutely excited about. I can’t wait to try their new food. Anyone who knows me knows I can’t pass by Westlands without stopping here at least once for a grab and go shake. I’ve actually tried their whole urban shakes menu and if you have a sweet tooth like me you have to try them out. My favourite has to be their chocolate shake.It’s so much chocolate layered on more chocolate with a cute little chocolate brownie sitting calmly on top of it all .But that’s not the end of it ,there’s still chocolate sauce,chocolate sprinkles ,chocolate cookies and some whipped cream put together with everything and lemme tell you as soon as I see the waiter bringing it over I ask myself why I’m so lucky in this life.The best part is that it’s very affordable and they all cost less than 800 shillings .Their Strawberry shake is also a drink after my own heart. It’s a little bit calm with less going on compared to the chocolate one so if you’re not into alot of sugar this should be your pick. Their food is also great and tasty but the freak shakes are it for me.

Just like it’s name urban eatery presents it’s clients with an urban concept of dining and a sneek peak into the urban lifestyle.They have a beautiful cocktail bar that serves such an extensive range of liquor and beer.Their kitchen is committed to providing mouthwatering dishes by incorporating heartwarming flavours and ingredients. Their menu is so extensive and all tastes and preferences are catered for inclusively. I personally felt like most cuisines were catered for adequately. They also have a coffee shop that blends and brews some of the best coffee I’ve had. On my first visit here,I dropped by casually for my twentieth birthday and other than that we also got to partake in the Nairobi pizza festival that was going on at that time. We ordered several things from their menu and what left an impression till to date was their freakshakes. The shakes were about 700/=.When the waiter brought it to my table it had such a full blast of colors (well it was just two hahaha) and there was so much ice cream it kept overflowing from the cup. Maybe because I just have a sweet tooth or I just like good things I felt like the taste in my mouth was heavenly once I took a sip. The proportions and the sugar was just right;highly recommend. My partner ordered a glass of light dry blended fruity sparkling wine called Papillon Brute. It had a whiff of peach and grass with a succulent dry finish.The other thing we ordered was Pizza from their Nairobi restaurant week menu and because of the deal that was going round ,we bought one and got the other one absolutely free. We got their chicken pizza and I was a little bit distracted from the taste because of all the sugar I just had so I can barely give a review on total we spent around 3000/= and we both felt like the meals were pretty filling.

An awakening of my taste buds

I arrived at Urban Eatery on a sunny Sunday mid-morning to meet my friend for brunch. During that week they had a wonderful brunch package in partnership with White Cap which is a Kenyan beer. I had been having the worst week and I was looking forward to the food and catch-up. Urban Eatery is located in Westlands area, Nairobi right beside the highway. The have a short driveway exit from the main highway where you will find ample packing space. It was a Sunday and it is a popular family spot so there were a few people enjoying their food as well. When you get past the security check into the restaurant, your first sight will be the bar. It’s quite remarkable and a nice place to sit, if you’re into that sort of thing. Drinking at the bar, that is.  There is a lot of sitting space on either side of the bar with a lovely outdoor area on the terrace. My eating companion had already sat indoors so I joined her at our table. The staff are quite friendly and resourceful. They knew about the menu and specials in depth. Short after handing over the menu to us, we decided on the steak. She had the 21-day marinated beef steak grilled with beer, medium rare with a side of mashed potatoes and a salad while I had the marinated lamb and roasted cucumber with a side of mashed potatoes and baby spinach. Another friend joined us a few minutes later and he ordered roasted chicken with a side of fries and corn. All the meals came with a complementary White Cap beer. The food frankly surpassed my expectations, with the meat being exceptional. The mashed potatoes had been mashed to perfection with traces of butter which blended nicely with the juicy steak. I still daydream about their steak to this day and I would 10/10 recommend it. I am not quite the biggest fan of beer so I barely had it but it completed the meal perfectly. The chef outdid himself. Urban Eatery also has  wide array of vegetarian options and an awesome kids’ menu. There are tables that can seat as many as fifteen if you are a large group. The bathrooms at the restaurant are clean and well stocked and easily spottable. I would give this location a 9/10 for family brunch dates, friend dates and Sunday lunches.

If you’re looking for a restaurant with variety then Urban Eatery is your number one to go to. It’s a well-organized, spotless, and stylish space with energized atmosphere. Urban Eatery is situated in a great location, with elegant décor and open space which allows for proper ventilation and natural lighting to grace the space seamlessly, not forgetting that salivating and enticing whiff of food being prepared from their kitchen which tempts you to order everything off their menu 😉 .

They pride themselves in global cuisines by providing a new experience to the food and hospitality field in Nairobi. Trust me when I say you will be spoilt for choice, trust me. They are equipped with 4 different kitchens and a signature bar all with a wide range selection of food and drink items.

1) Chop Nairobi (Grills) is a modern kitchen that serves freestyle comfort food. From breakfast to light bitings and to char-grilled feasts.

2) Chiso (Pan Asian) with the tastes of East Asia

3) The Kitchen (continental & Indian)

4) Barista Co, specialty coffee roasters, and Their newly opened Circles Cocktail Bar which is ready for the Happiest Hours (6 pm-8 pm) with enjoyable cocktails.

Food;

Price range (Kshs.550 – Kshs. 3000) a) Slow cooked mushroom and beef vegetable stroganoff with basmati pilaf, pickles and sour cream (Kshs.1250) b) Chicken Schnitzel served with apple coleslaw (Kshs.990) The portions might seem small on the plate but they are actually very very filling and tasty.

Drinks;

Strawberry State of mind Banana Nutella Smoothie. These are hands down the most delectable smoothies and slushies in town. Fresh, filling, and balanced. Service; – Their service is excellent. Right from the reception, you feel very welcomed, the staff are hospitable and up to speed with the menu items. If you are an adventurous eater then Urban Eatery is for you.
