Kenyans sure do love their meat but not to worry as it is easy to eat healthy and organic vegetarian food here. The foodie scene in Nairobi has evolved enough to host a variety of vegetarian restaurants that you sure should try out. Here are my favorite joints for veggie lovers.
1.) KAILASH PARBAT KENYA
Kailash Parbat pays homage to the people, the culture and the traditions which have all played a part in influencing its diverse culinary history from India .
Kailash’s menu recreates many of the city’s most loved snacks and street food such as the Chaants, the Vada Pav , or the Chole Bhature. These dishes instantly transport guests to the streets and the “gullies ” of Mumbai.
Kailash is a restaurant well suited to host a leisurely dinner with friends or a quick lunch for one. Guests can enjoy a lazy Sunday brunch or even have a mid week work meeting. Kailash Parbat is open daily from 11am to 11pm , their food and drinks range from Kshs. 170 to Kshs. 1000 .
2.) BOHO EATERY
Boho Eatery is a wholefoods restaurant focused on conscious and sustainable living . They are committed to consistently creating quality food and beverage products that are prepared from the best of what Kenya has to offer.
Boho Eatery are passionate about conscious and sustainable living and they believe a huge part of clean living has to do with eating clean. This clean living goes through their entire supply chain that supports them .
Boho Eatery curate a range of gastronomically interesting and delicious products using locally available produce. They also sell grazing tables that are carefully curated table-scapes that are not only a visual feast but are laden with mouthwateringly delicious fare, both savory and sweet.
Boho Eatery is open on Tuesday and Wednesday at 11:30 a.m to 17:30 p.m and on Thursday and Friday , from 11:30 a.m to 22:00pm, on Saturday its open from 9am to 10pm and on Sunday its open from 9am to 5:30pm .
3.)WASP AND SPROUT
Wasp and sprout is a family run business located in Loresho ; Nairobi that makes furniture , sells delicious food and drink and trades in local, sustainably made products from East Africa. Basically , they’re a Fair Trade and Eco homewares/furniture from Africa. Oh, and a coffee shop.
Wasp and Sprout focuses on the friendliness , simplicity and transparency of all , as well as the provenance and sustainability of everything they source and serve .
If you love eggs benedict they serve the most delectable smoked salmon and avocado benedict.
4. ) CHOWPARTY – PURE VEGETARIAN RESTAURANT
Chowparty is one of the oldest and most prestigious restaurants in Kenya. It started off as a modest set-up at Diamond Plaza and expanded to Westlands , Shimmer Plaza and Highridge Plaza.
Chowparty serve up mouth-watering dishes that leave you yearning you for more . Their world-class cuisine and hand-crafted cocktails are to die and quite affordable too . Their meals don’t cost more than Kshs. 1000.
Chowpaty also offer live soccer screenings and cricket matches , as well fresh fruit juice to enjoy .
5.) LUCCA
Lucca is a trattoria style Italian cuisine restaurant in Villa Rosa Kempinski with tantalizing and intoxicating aromas of home cooked Italian food . Lucca is a perfect spot to indulge yourself in the perfect fusion of European luxury and Kenyan hospitality .
Lucca’s chefs use the finest ingredients to deliver the greatest home cooked food, just what is required for a delicious dining experience. It is designed with family and friends in mind and has constant offers running .
Lucca opens daily at 12:30pm to 23:00 pm and they have Sunday brunch with a live band at Kshs. 4800 per person.
6. ) TIN ROOF CAFE
Tin Roof Cafe’s philosophy is about fresh , green spaces to sit and enjoy a hearty meal . They are a haven for the health conscious and offer the city’s residents a peaceful place to relax and refresh away from the humdrum of this fast expanding metropolis.
Tin roof have been dubbed Nairobi’s coolest gastro-cafe as they source locally grown produce , avoid plastic straws, use 100 % recycled takeaway boxes and deck out cafes with upcycled furniture.
Their outdoor cafes are open for breakfast and lunch and offer an impressive range of healthy salads, toasted sandwiches, burgers, pizzas and delicious sweets. They have vegan and gluten-free options in every section of their menu and are always open to suggestions.
TinRoof are open daily from 8am to 6pm and prices start from Kshs. 150 to Kshs. 1250/=.
7.) RORO’S CAFE
RORO’s is a fast casual restaurant with a focus on serving hearty, wholesome and healthy ‘Fast-Food.’ Roro’s seek to make eating healthy convenient and dispel the common view that healthy food cannot be delicious, exciting and flavoursome.
Roro’s serve ‘Real Food’ no additives, preservatives, artificial ingredients or processed sugars, they only use the highest quality and freshest ingredients for their simple but fun menu, all freshly made to order with a small selection of ready-made items for pick-up in their ‘Grab n Go’ Fridge.
Roro’s hearty, wholesome filling meals are delicious without compromising on health and healthy without compromising on taste.
They are open daily and located at Sarit Centre Mall.
8.) FALAFEL HOUSE
Falafel House is a vegan , vegetarian , gluten free and plant based restaurant located at the 2nd floor ,new wing of The Village Market . They’re relatively new but they have a renowned reputation of serving generous portions that are both filling and tasty .
Falafel House have vegetarian burgers that cater to every plant-based lover’s journey. Their items range from Kshs. 500 to Kshs. 1500.
9.) LEVEL 24 EATERY
Level 24 Eatery is a cozy eatery with an inviting ambience and panoramic views of Nairobi. Level 24 offer an amazing selection of popular vegan and vegetarian dishes with a Level24 twist.
Level 24 is located at the 24th floor of Le Mac building and serves as Nairobi’s first sky walk and one of the best city views .
Level 24 operates from 08:00am to 19:30pm everyday and their food items range from Kshs. 200 to Kshs. 1600.
10.) MERCADO RESTAURANT
Mercado Restaurant are passionate about food that they wanted to bring rich and diverse cuisines to the city of Nairobi. No other cuisine stood out more to them than Mexican cuisine due to its complexity and diverse offering.
Their chefs from Mexico City curate a menu that combines ancient cooking techniques with modern twists, to not only bring Mexican delicacies to Nairobi but also to have an offering that is unique to them across the globe.
Mercado use home grown, organic & fresh ingredients to give their guests a quality experience on every visit. They operate from 12pm to 11pm daily and their prices don’t go over above Kshs. 4000.
