Big Square Gigiri

I haven’t been to Big Square in Gigiri, rather I went to the one along Moi Avenue opposite Union Towers. The environment is very calm, they have good food and good service as well. The restaurant’s decor is quite nice and I especially liked the spacing which is quite large making it easier to have intimate conversations. I love the big windows especially which makes it fun to eat while you enjoy the city’s view. I found their prices to be affordable and the menu had a wide variety to choose from ranging from burgers, ribs, shakes and other meals. The only downside is that the food takes long to be served

The big square restaurant is one of the top attractive restaurants in town. It has its signature dish, BBQ, grilled pork which is completely astonishing. It was just a typical day. I decided to go and have a good time at two rivers mall, and I came a close to the big square restaurant and decided to go and have something to eat. At the entrance, I liked the warm welcome I received; the music and the restaurant’s ambiance were charming and incredible. The place is child-friendly, where they provide a place for kids to have fun all the time. I was seated at a table next to the counter. The serving waiter provided the menu; it was a simple and well-arranged menu easy to choose from. I ordered steak, but the waiter told me the restaurant does not offer. So I decided to try their signature pork ribs comb with onion rings, ksh 1,190. I ordered a mint milkshake for the drink, only ksh 330. The drink took only 3 minutes, and the food took only 15minutes. The milkshake was presented nicely with whipped cream on top, and it was so thick that I got full before I could get time to try my food. The pork ribs were mouth-watering, meaty, and juicy. Onion rings were a lot and crispy. It was the best combination ever. This place is excellent. The atmosphere is chill and relaxed. The staff was amicable skilled, and they knew what they were doing and what they were selling to the guest. I recommend to everyone to visit the place. It was my first time, and I would like to see the place again and again.

After a visit to The Big Square Moi Avenue branch on a weekend, their BBQ ribs are all my friends could talk about for am entire week so I decided I had to try out the place myself and see what the hype was all about. I visited their Garden City branch usually on the the first floor of the mall and what struck me first about the place is it’s beautiful dining area. One can choose to either dine inside the restaurant or outside where they have an enclosed, spacious well designed sitting area. Inside, the walls are orange with beautiful black and white photographs which create a beautiful contrast making the place look warm and lively. I was warmly received by the waitress at the doorway who asked me how she could be of assistance and where I’d wish to sit. I chose to sit outside where I could get a good view of the mall. I was then handed the menu and without much thought ordered their honey BBQ single rack beef ribs that were Ksh 1140 with a side of fries and an oreo milkshake. Their milkshakes are fantastic to say the least and definitely worth the ksh 500. My order got a bit delayed and when it arrived the ribs looked soooo good, so mouthwatering that I devoured on them immediately forgetting to even use a fork to eat my fries! Their ribs are nothing short of heavenly, finger-licking glory. Their fries were sweet but quite little they should definitely work on their portions. Besides that, my experience there was nice and I would definitely go back there for another taste of their delicious ribs. Besides Nairobi where they have branches at Bellevue, Lavington, Two Rivers and the Mountain View Mall , Bigsquare also has a branch in Eldoret so you can get to enjoy some ribs from your nearest branch!

Big square has many branches across nairobi. I mostly go to the one at garden city because it’s closer for me. They however have branches at Moi Avenue, Adlife plaza, Oval, Lavington, Bellevue and many more around the city. Their interior is uniform at all their branches. The have very nice relaxing music playing in the background. The interior is simple but modern. The place is very chilled especially when it’s not rush hour. A good place to have some wine while you work on your laptop. Its also a great place to chill as friends and drink some beer. Their service is very nice and the waiters are very polite and friendly. Their prices are affordable with a full meal for on person being less than 1500 including drinks. Their ribs are quite tender and juicy. Their fries are also well seasoned. Their shakes are great and their pizza amazing. They are generous with the amount of toppings they put and its very saucy. Make sure you try it. Their burgers are okay but I find the bun too thick. Their coffee is really good.They also had a happy hour for 3 cocktails for 800KES. This was such a steal. Very affordable and value for money. There is also ample parking here at a fee of 50KES for the first one hour.

I have never seen a better service than this……at first I was a bit shaken but one of the employee touch my shoulder and said “Ma’am are you okay?” I was happy because for once somebody asked for my wellbeing not phone number…….so everything went well and I would usually find an excuse to go there just to see him……??

After a long day at school, I sometimes treat myself to food and drinks at the CBD. Having gone to most restaurants in the city centre I decided it was time to try something new. So, I picked up the gf, and she convinced me to try out Big Square – Moi Avenue. Am not gonna lie, I expected Big Square to be a normal run-of-the-mill fast-food joint, with the average fast food joints menu and décor. But I was pleasantly surprised to find out they actually sell alcohol and DIY Pizza. I have a creative spirit so anything DIY immediately wins me over. And that’s how Big Square won me over even before I had my first meal. For my DIY Pizza, I decided to go just a little bit crazy, not too crazy. For the toppings I went with Mozzarella cheese, BBQ chicken, Jalapeno and Pineapple ?. Yes!!! Pineapples do belong on pizza, shoot me! Lol. Their cocktails were also really good and really strong, so strong that am considering putting them at the top of my list of the strongest cocktails. The cocktail glass is also really big. We unfortunately missed out on their happy hour, which is 3 cocktails for KSh800. But if am being honest, that was probably for the best since one cocktail was enough to get me really drunk. 3 cocktails would have had me crawling on the floor. In total I spent around KSh3000, the price of the DIY pizza was around KSh1300, but I honestly cant remember, either because of the cocktails or the fact that they were charging per topping. Since then I’ve returned to Big Square a few more times, so I highly recommend it.

Big square is a casual dining restaurant that has several branches all around the country. I’ve been to the branches in town,Gigiri, Garden city, and the one in Nyali, Mombasa. In my opinion, the food is very casual. If you want to get the experience of fine dining I would not recommend it. The branch in Garden City has a nice little cozy vibe to it. It offers an indoor sitting section and an outdoor kind of lounge section. A nice atmosphere to be honest.

The decor is alright and not particularly lacking. On my first visit, I went here for their cocktails. It was around 4 years ago and I have to say what was offered was definitely not what was advertised. They were watered down and they even served it to me in a plastic disposable cup with the reasoning that people tend to break the glasses when drunk. They had an offer going on and were charging 3 for the price of 1000kshs. I guess that was the catch. The second time I ordered a milkshake and their grilled chicken. The chicken was 950ksh and the milkshakes are priced at 300kshs. The milkshake alright but the chicken, not to my liking at all! It was very dry and I couldn’t feel the lemon and chili that was supposed to be infused in it.

This restaurants saving grace to me maybe is their breakfast menu. Their coffee is usually good and the full breakfast platter that goes for 630kshs is palatable. Big square is not a favourite of mine when it comes to dining but it would probably serve the purpose for a grab-and-go meal.

Located on the first floor of Garden City Mall just off Thika Road, Big square is the perfect kind of restaurant that would be perfect for a family weekend lunch or casual lunch with friends. The space is airy, with a nice outdoor eating space with a view of the childrens’ recreation area on the mall grounds and a view of the adjacent Thika Road. Although it is adjacent to a few other fast food places, I personally do not think Big Square falls into this category with its interior decor and vast menu. Big Square is normally known for its pizzas and they have amazing pizza offers for  groups or duos.  The staff are prompt, efficient and friendly and the service is efficient. The only downside is the aspect of (some) lack of privacy. Given it is located in the mall, the dining area is right next to the mall corridors. If you are the type of person who enjoys discretion while dining and few distractions, this place would certainly not be a good fit. The place is also quite noisy on a weekend so it would not be a suitable place to get some work done. The menu is not exactly vegetarian-friendly with few options to choose from. They have an alcoholic drinks menu with happy hour for cocktails. The pizzas arrive on round wooden plate-pans. My date and I ordered two large pizzas that go for a total of 15$ with mango juice for 2.5$. I had the boerwors option while they had the chicken periperi. The crust has the perfect thickness, on the thinner side and the toppings were an absolute delight. The mango juice was chilled which was perfect for a hot Saturday afternoon in Nairobi. Our bill came to about 20$ total with a tip. I would rate it 6/10.

I must admit it was my first time to eat at Big Square. First I was afraid but then I popped in, checked their menus and my first impression was customer service. The waitress attended to me calmly and handled my list. Honestly she told me to wait and with minutes food was ready. It’s wasn’t expensive that I thought so they are pocket friendly. I asked for a grilled chicken with fries and salad. I enjoyed it fully with satisfaction. It’s always my priority whenever am thinking of something delicious.
