Java House, commonly referred to as ‘Nairobi Java’,opened its first store in 1999 at Adam’s Arcade in Nairobi. With the aim of introducing gourmet coffee drinking culture in Kenya, the first outlet was a coffee shop and later the brand evolved to an American diner style restaurant to its present-day status as a 3 -day part coffee-led, casual dining concept.

Java House is now one of the leading coffee brands in Africa and has grown to have outlets in 14 cities across 3 countries in East Africa (Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda). It has also birthed two sister brands Planet Yoghurt, a healthy, tasty and fun frozen yogurt store and 360 Degrees Pizza, a casual dining restaurant.

“Welcome to Java. A home away from home”

Our coffee houses would not be what they are without the effort, commitment, and passion of the Java House team who make sure each branch is a place where everyone feels at home. Quality and professionalism are deeply rooted in our culture and we ensure that every cup poured and every plate served is a reflection of our promise of offering only the best.

Ambience and solo lunches

Java House Karen is one of my favorite location to have solo lunches and read books. Java is a household name throughout Kenya. They usual have this slogan that where you go, when you enter a java store it feels familiar, it feels like home. That is why they use the same décor in every store. I like this particular branch first of all because of its proximity to home. And the structure is stylish and homey. It looks amazing. When you walk into the building you notice the same stylish look. The burgundy walls and the paintings. I usually seat at the booth but they also offer tables for two and fours. My favorite meal is the fries and grilled chicken which goes for 750/= The cakes are also really good and a slice of cake goes for 300/=. Coffees range from 170/= to 370/= while milkshake range within 450/= Java is so peaceful. I could stay there all day.

Just another day at my favourite local coffee shop.

Java is the kind of coffee shop that is amazing for all kinds of meetings. That catch up meeting with your friend, that business prospect, a quick coffee date, a blind date… You get the gist. It has the perfect environment to catch up on some work as well and fill up on caffeine. It’s the perfect mix of local coffee shop but still has a dash of bourgeoisie and is located in almost every Kenyan mall. Coffee lovers will definitely enjoy the place. It kind of reminds me of the coffee shop that Lorelai from Gilmore Girls went to everyday, with the same sense of familiarity and homeliness. The ambience is very congenial – with burgundy walls and paintings for the interior decor. You can choose to sit indoors or outdoors depending on your preference. It is summertime in Nairobi and of course I opted to sit outdoors while working on some assignments. When I go to Java, I almost always have their giant samosas which go for 1$ or 1.5$. The samosa and a great cup of tea will be enough to soothe any bad day. It’s also the perfect thing to order when you’re just a tad hungry but not enough to order a meal. They have an awesome breakfast menu too. I have been hangover countless times in the morning and have had an amazing Java breakfast to kick-start my day. The staff are always friendly and knowledgeable. If you do choose to visit here I would recommend you to try their latte and chocolate cake if you’re going for something sugary and their samosas if you’re going for something savoury. I would rate it a 8/10.

Java!! I recently learned that the name was initially called oak and later on renamed java from the indonesia coffee. Interesting right? Honestly, I wouldn’t have bothered to know all this if I wasn’t impressed ☺️. My initial thought while walking into java was merely”aaah okay a coffee shop, nice!“However, I was met with an applaudable service that left me changing my mere blunt thoughts into wide smiles. The scenery at first was amazing, but it takes more than looks to impress. The service was splendid, the meals has a luscious taste that left my mouth asking for more. Talking of ambiance, ooh lord!! I would briefly describe it as pleasant and soothing. What more can I ask from a coffee shop? No no…I should say that this is much more than a coffee shop,it’s a home. From an astounding scenery to dedicated workers, splendid food…It just warms my heart.☺️
