Everything Under One Roof
21 years ago K1 Klub already had an emoji of their logo before the arrival of the internet. It is a yellow smiley sun donning cool sunglasses, perhaps the future was so bright it was hurting its eyes LOL! Parklands where it is situated is barely 10 minute drive from the Nairobi CBD. K1 boasts very cosmopolitan patronage with revelers from all parts of the globe. Driven by creativity and innovation, this fully Kenyanowned venue remains one of the city’s favorite fun hotspots twenty-four years on. Far from being simply a club, it has become a cultural icon and hub that shapes the arts and entertainment scene in Kenya. My friend, sister, and I decided to head over to KI House Club for brunch on a Saturday. You will be met by a friendly security guard who will request to check whatever you have carried just to be sure you don’t sneak in any liquid.
We found our way to the beautiful umbrella decors and ordered, luckily we were among the early birds in the compound and I must say we had 100% attention from the staff. Ogla is her name, a warm, bubbly lady… I ordered their chicken burger which is quite famous and I was not disappointed! it comes with a big glass of beer, if you like me who does not take any alcoholic drink, you can always ask the waiter not to serve it. If you are new to Nairobi and want to know the best place to catch a football match, it will be difficult to avoid hearing the name K1. This is because of Soccer City, the miniature stadium constructed in 2010 with a giant screen that became iconic. It has now been revamped and renamed the Round House, an inspiring space that not only caters to sports fans but also plays home to musicians, movie lovers, stand-up comedians, and gamers who hone their craft and connect with their creative communities there every week. Since the K1 Sunday Flea Market opened in early 2017, it has become synonymous with Sunday socializing: brunch, shopping, and evening parties. K1 is the place where entertainment is always evolving. Oh, they also have a hotel onsite… Its sister hotel (Kahama) in Mombasa is equally fancy and a major entertainment spot down in the Coastal town.
