Everything Under One Roof

21 years ago K1 Klub already had an emoji of their logo before the arrival of the internet. It is a yellow smiley sun donning cool sunglasses, perhaps the future was so bright it was hurting its eyes LOL! Parklands where it is situated is barely 10 minute drive from the Nairobi CBD. K1 boasts very cosmopolitan patronage with revelers from all parts of the globe. Driven by creativity and innovation, this fully Kenyanowned venue remains one of the city’s favorite fun hotspots twenty-four years on. Far from being simply a club, it has become a cultural icon and hub that shapes the arts and entertainment scene in Kenya. My friend, sister, and I decided to head over to KI House Club for brunch on a Saturday. You will be met by a friendly security guard who will request to check whatever you have carried just to be sure you don’t sneak in any liquid.

We found our way to the beautiful umbrella decors and ordered, luckily we were among the early birds in the compound and I must say we had 100% attention from the staff. Ogla is her name, a warm, bubbly lady… I ordered their chicken burger which is quite famous and I was not disappointed! it comes with a big glass of beer, if you like me who does not take any alcoholic drink, you can always ask the waiter not to serve it. If you are new to Nairobi and want to know the best place to catch a football match, it will be difficult to avoid hearing the name K1. This is because of Soccer City, the miniature stadium constructed in 2010 with a giant screen that became iconic. It has now been revamped and renamed the Round House, an inspiring space that not only caters to sports fans but also plays home to musicians, movie lovers, stand-up comedians, and gamers who hone their craft and connect with their creative communities there every week. Since the K1 Sunday Flea Market opened in early 2017, it has become synonymous with Sunday socializing: brunch, shopping, and evening parties. K1 is the place where entertainment is always evolving. Oh, they also have a hotel onsite… Its sister hotel (Kahama) in Mombasa is equally fancy and a major entertainment spot down in the Coastal town.

Umbrellas on the roof

This joint is located in Westlands. An uber from town is roughly 150KES. A matatu is 50KES and is at Odeon CBD. The perfect place for both a daytime thing and a lit night. Its décor is such a vibe. They put so much effort into it. The ambience is amazing and the music they play is ever a mood. They have umbrellas hang on the ceiling and that is the first thing you notice. They also have different vibes of the week, karaoke night is so much fun. Their service is really good with the waiters respond to your requests on time. Their cocktails, which go from 700/= to 1000/=, are yummy and hit the spot. They usually have a happy hour and you can get two of your favorite cocktails at the price of one. Their food is very nice too. I used to frequent this joint before the pandemic on Sundays with a few friends and it’s always a good time. The have flee market Sunday where various vendors sell clothes. They also have days where they host celebrities or artists who come to play music at the bar. This is my go to place be it a polite Sunday brunch with the girls or a crazy night with a couple of friends. Definitely one of the best nightlife joints in Nairobi.

Good vibes and great cocktails

Located a few minutes from Nairobi CBD off Ojijo Road, K1 is a popular spot for many Nairobians. Be it going for lunch, meeting for happy hour, brunches or clubbing, K1 promises to meet your needs with good vibes from the moment you step into the club. They have various themes for different days. Wednesdays are for karaoke nights, Thursdays are for reggae nights, Saturdays are for live bands and Sunday there is the famous K1 flea market. I remember the first time going there, I was meeting up with my cousin. It was on a Saturday. I had never been there so I didn’t know what to accept. I took a cab from town and I paid 230/=. I alighted at the entrance and immediately noticed just how good the entrance looks. It has a board outside with the offers on foods and drinks available and the event for the night. Since it was Saturday, we were going to have the live band. After the entrance you are taken aback by the canopy of umbrellas on that act as the shade. I remember thinking “this is so cool, how come I’ve never been here before.” The clubhouse has a bar, restaurant, indoor bar and outdoor sitting area. We drank our beers and cocktails at the outdoor sitting area until the live band started at around 7pm. .The music was lovely and the service was so timely and polite. I really enjoyed my time there.

This is a typical idle zone for random hang outs. K1 will always have something for you to do and whenever my friends and I are bored the unanimous alternative to being at home is let’s all go to K1. Basically it’s a club house that’s located along Ojijo road, Parklands. It’s the entertainment joint where I guarantee you’ll meet this one friend of yours you last talked to two years ago and don’t really know what has been going on with them. In short what am trying to say is that if you want to catch up and chill as you enjoy diverse food then K1 is the place. To be honest, it’s more of a place you go more for the vibes and energy and less for the food. They have really good drinks though and they always leave you feeling a little bit tipsy probably the way you intended them to. My favorite day to visit K1 is on Wednesday’s they have this really insane program called open mic. It’s hosted by the beautiful Patricia Kihoro and you get to watch very exciting performances .It also provides an incredible opportunity for talented people to come and showcase what they can really do. The venue where this happens usually has a nice rustic vibe to it and the dim lighting crates a whole mood. You get to enjoy their happy hour deals on cocktails and beers at such an affordable price. I found their customer service really good and the waiter could not stand seeing my table empty. As soon as my drinks ran out she would appear from nowhere almost like she had a sixth sense. I still find this pretty mysterious. On Sundays, this place usually gets ten times livelier. There is always something happening and the best part is vendors join in all the fun .If you’re not into open mic, I’d recommend visiting it on a Sunday and I promise you definitely won’t regret it.

Flea Market and Chill…

K1 is quite popular among Nairobians on Sundays as there are usually shows from artists, awesome dining experience and drinks flowing. The parking lot fills up pretty quickly and one may have to park on the street due to the large influx of customers during the weekends. The scene is usually a younger audience from about ages 18 to 35 and good vibes all round. The clubhouse has a cafeteria style dining experience with wooden tables and long benches. What is very characteristic about the place is the use of colorful umbrellas to make a canopy for the roof outdoors. This makes is a favourite place for customers to take their photos for social media, of course. The clubhouse has a bar, restaurant, indoor bar and outdoor sitting area. They also facilitate a flea market on Sundays where vendors showcase their items for sale. The clubhouse generally has the feel of a social – with lots of activities happening on site. There is a pool table near the bar if you would like to enjoy a game as well as screens to catch up with your favourite football match. They permit smoking and are one of the few locations in Nairobi that are LGBT-friendly. With a budget of 25$, you will have a meal and 2 cocktails during happy hour. I would definitely go back for a round of beer with my friends and burgers and to shop at the flea market!

It’s always a good time

If you love live music, good food and beautiful décor, visiting K1 Klub House should be on your weekly to do list. And as big fans of live music, their flea market and Sunday brunch; Nairobians always flock to the venue every Sunday. My friends and I are not an exception, and we often find ourselves there on weekends and weekdays alike. However, I had never attended their Speaker Box event. So, when we got an invite to watch our friend play, I had to jump at the opportunity. K1 Klub house is located in Parklands, along Ojijo Road, next to Parklands Sports Club. It’s quite close to the Nairobi CBD and it takes around ten to fifteen minutes to arrive by Uber. The staff are always friendly and the service is usually fast. Prices are fair for the quality of food you get; however, the portions are quite small and I never seem to get satisfied. We arrived at around 6 pm, right in time for their happy hour, which was between 4pm and 7pm. They have some of the best happy hour offers in Nairobi. You can get 2 cocktails for the price of 1; 3 glasses of draft beer for the price of 2; and 3 glasses of wine for the price of 2. We ordered long islands and sat on the sofas to listen to the live performances. Cocktails cost between KSh700 and KSh990. Live music at K1 never disappoints and this was not an exception. It’s always a good time at K1 Klub House, and I highly recommend it.

Are you free on Sunday?? Or Monday?? Or Tuesday?? Even on Wednesdays ?? Or rather are you free any day of the week and want to unwind ??K1 clubhouse is the place. This space is amazing I must say. It’s located along the road to parklands. Easily accessible right by the road.

Booze, food, music, art: K1 has you covered. It’s like a trade fair for some of your favourite local brands every other day and it especially comes to life on Sundays. Even though it’s livelier on the weekends…it never lets you down on the weekdays. They have a list of scheduled events every week: from open mic, spoken word, acoustic live sessions, and even book club meetings. These serve as perfect first date ideas if you wanna explore art and different forms of expression.

Following them on their Instagram page is a perfect way to be in the know of what they have going on. On Sundays, It’s always bustling. Hang out with friends as you drink, shop, eat enjoy music all day long. It has a variety of food stalls, restaurants as well as bars so they definitely offer variety. Pricing varies depending on the restuarants but I guarantee the portions and the food are worth it.
