The world’s best coffee is without a doubt from Kenya and there’s no better way to enjoy a hot cuppa than when it’s freshly sourced , carefully crafted and beautifully brewed to produce the most aromatic and exciting blends served up to you in creative cups.
They’re over 100 coffee shops in Nairobi and I narrowed them to my top ten favorites in terms of specialty coffee, varied gourmet roasts , café ambience and of course rich and delicious cups of coffee.
1.) SPRING VALLEY COFFEE
Spring Valley Coffee is my top coffee spot as they proudly celebrate Kenya’s coffee culture and are committed in doing right by Kenyan coffee farmers and their hard work through expert roasting and perfect extraction.
Spring Valley Coffee is served at five different locations across Nairobi. These are Spring Valley , Village Market , Westgate , Wilson Airport and Karen . All their branches open from 7am to 6pm daily except the Wilson Airport branch that opens at 6am .
Spring Valley sell a variety of products which includes barista tools , capsules , coffee bags , coffee equipment , pastries , bites , tea & syrups all ranging from Kshs. 200 to Kshs. 55,000.
My favorite coffee is the Gourmet Spring Valley Coffee , it is medium roast , roasted to perfection , full of flavor and has hints of vanilla and butter . Its medium intense and the finish is glorious and smooth for any coffee lover out here .

2.) BARISTA AND CO.
Barista and Co. is a family-owned business who carefully hand roast the coffee to highlight the natural characteristics of the coffee and thereafter brew coffee with scientific precision to ensure every cup of coffee they serve is excellent .

I love Barista’s cappuccino con panna , their Turkish shakshuka and lotus biscoff cheesecake , which I beg of you to try it out . Barista and Co have food items that range from Kshs. 100 to Kshs .1200.
Barista and Co. has two locations , one at Keystone Park operating from Sunday to Monday , 8am to 8pm and the second location is at The Sarit Centre , operating from Sunday to Monday 8am to 10pm .
3.)CONNECT COFFEE ROASTERS
Connect Coffee Roasters stand by the slogan Coffee with integrity as they ensure customer satisfaction and farmer connection. Connect Coffee’s business categories include coffee farmers project , specialty coffee outlets , roasted coffee beans supply and coffee equipment distribution .
Connect Coffee roast their coffee onsite everyday and only serve roasted coffee prepared between 2-14 days hence maintaining high-quality coffee.
Connect Coffee serve up two blends of espresso coffee , the Romeo bland that is a beautiful combination of smoky dark chocolate flavor with nutty flavor and Juliet blend which captures fruity flavor with the scent of flowers to fill your morning with joy . They have brewing coffee , cold brew coffee , fresh juice & iced drinks and of course specialty brewed tea. For food items they serve contemporary variants of waffles , fresh salads , sandwiches wraps and pastries .
Connect Coffee menu has food and coffee items ranging from Kshs. 200 to Kshs. 1000 and have three locations
- Riverside address at The Riverfront building , operating on the weekdays from 8am to 7pm and weekends from 9am to 7pm.
- Gigiri address at the Gigiri Complex , operating on the weekdays from 7am to 7pm and weekends 7am to 7pm .
- Sanlam address at Fourth floor of Sanlam Towers , operating on the weekdays from 8am to 5pm and closed on the weekends.
Highly recommend their Thai beef salad and chamomile specialty tea.
4.) JAVA HOUSE
Java House is a chain of coffee houses with its head office at ABC Place in Nairobi, Kenya. It’s the only establishment where you can find export quality Kenyan brewed coffee that is refreshing and tasty. Java House is one of the leading coffee brands in Africa and has grown to have outlets in 14 cities across 3 countries in East Africa (Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda). It has also birthed two sister brands Planet Yoghurt, a healthy, tasty and fun frozen yoghurt store and 360 Degrees Pizza, a casual dining restaurant.
Java House has three menus , The Master Menu , The Halal menu and The Kiddie’s menu . The Master menu is divided in two parts , the barista corner menu that serves drinks from Kshs. 100 to Kshs. 360 and food menu with variety of meals from salads to desserts including ice cream tubs. The food menu ranges from Kshs. 160bto Kshs. 3200 (the ice-cream tub ).
I love Java’s full breakfast and hot beverage offer that has been running for a while now and their Caribbean chicken salad with honey mustard dressing , the best chicken salad ever ;)).
5.) ATTIBASI
Attibassi Coffee located at 42 Muththi Road , is a traditional brand from Bologna Italy and they’re much appreciated for their artisan passion for traditional Italian products. Through years of experience, study, and understanding of the ever changing character of raw materials, Attibassi has achieved the perfect balance between human experience, and the use of modern industrial processes that gets them an impressive reputation .
Attibassi serve freshly brewed coffee , food and cocktails everyday from 6:30 am to 10:00pm. They have food items from breakfast plates , salads, bitings, sandwiches , wraps , curries , burgers , pasta, pizza and hot drinks ranging from Kshs. 170 to Kshs. 1850 .
I love Attibassi for their affordability and for always serving fresh food. I love to pop in those days when work takes over the day and I need a hearty meal to warm me up .
6.) COFFEE AND BAGELS
Coffee and Bagels is a fairly new coffee spot in Nairobi that bakes bagels and makes freshly brewed coffee. Coffee and Bagels have an interesting setup that looks like a chemistry lab and their interior is quite unique too, it’s also so warm and inviting.
Finding bagels in Nairobi is quite a hustle and Coffee and Bagels have come to rescue us from the struggle and coupled that with a cute spot for coffee date lovers , a treat ! . They are big at conserving our environment and are part of the Go Green Movement which seeks to reduce the use of disposable paper cups. They invite their customers into the Go Green Movement by allowing people to go in for their drinks with their own cups .

7.) VIEWS COFFEE HOUSE
Views Coffee House is a cozy restaurant located at the Nairobi CBD with amazing views of the CBD and a reputation of affordable and delicious meals. Views Coffee are well known for their saucy shawarma and chocolate rush coffee hot drinks .
Views Coffee is perfect during sunny days as the views are spectacular as well as during the rainy season as you sip on hot chocolate and enjoying the views too . They are open everyday from 7am to 6pm .
8.) MUGG AND BEAN
Mugg and Bean is a go to for easy on the tummy as they are on eye hot plates . Mugg and Bean serve people’s familiar favorites as well as the latest food innovations and seasonal meals. Each plate is generously stacked with fresh ingredients of the highest quality so that you can enjoy more than of that satisfying nutritious taste.
Mugg and Bean are serious about coffee and take care to hand select the best single origin beans and international blends from the finest coffee producing regions all over the world . They serve decadent treats as well and they bake every single of them from scratch not to meddle with perfection .
Mugg and Bean serve bottomless coffee, delicious cakes, generous helpings of nutritious food, hot beverages and share their recipes through their Master Baker section. Food items range from Kshs. 180 to Kshs. 600 , they open everyday from 7am .
9.) COFFEE CASA
Coffee Casa is a home away from home restaurant located at the doctor’s park , 3rd Parklands Avenue that serve up perfectly brewed coffee , tea, food and cocktails.
Coffee Casa has beautiful black and white fun décor with white board written affirmations to keep you going . Coffee Casa is prefect for breakfast dates and sundowners. They have the most amazing milkshakes, perfectly brewed coffee and other food items from as low as Kshs. 180 to Kshs. 1300 . Check them out for their lattes too.
Coffee Casa is open everyday from 8am to 10:30pm .
10.)DRAGON EYE KITCHEN
Dragon Eye Kitchen is a Hong Kong street food restaurant that serves up small plates and drinks of every street food delicacy known from Hong Kong . Dragon Kitchen are open from 11am to 9pm on Tuesdays to Sundays and are open for both dine in and takeaway.
Dragon Eye Kitchen serve up specialty coffee , both hot and iced from Kshs. 200 to Kshs. 350 and serve small bites , baos, soups , chicken wings , waffle dishes , classics dishes, fried rice , noodles and seafood. On the weekdays they have a lunchbox special from 12pm to 3pm at 1200/= for one starter and quick lunch main dish .
The typhoon prawns are so good, they are garlicky , crispy and so delicious ! Highly recommend this with their chili oil.
