Nakuru is a hub for business and tourism in Kenya and so you have lots of people going in and out of the city. They obviously need places to stay and there must be a variety of options to meet their different standards. That’s why there are lots of hotels in Nakuru. Deciding on the best hotel for you to stay in and dine at can be challenging so I’ve come up with a few options. Here’s a list of the top 10 hotels in Nakuru.
1) Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge
Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge is set along the Lion Hill in Lake Nakuru National Park (just before you enter Nakuru City). It is one of the most sought-after Rift Valley Lodges in Kenya, best known for offering the finest quality services. It’s pretty high-end and oozes class all through. The rooms are spacious and come with a view of Lake Nakuru.
2) The Alps Hotel
The Alps is a classy hotel located in the suburbs of Milimani, Nakuru. The hotel grounds and the surrounding area are quiet and serene. It’s built on a hill so you get a viewpoint of Nakuru City and Lake Nakuru. You get the view from all the rooms plus the restaurant which is on the rooftop terrace. Another fantastic addition to the hotel is the live band that plays in the restaurant every Sunday.
3) Sarova Woodlands
What comes to mind when you hear Sarova? Classy decor, exquisite service, executive rooms, well-prepared food… all premium stuff. Sarova Woodlands is no exception. The restaurant is located in the leafy suburbs of Milimani so the surrounding area is quiet and serene. It’s also close to Nakuru CBD which is convenient if you have to frequent the CBD for work.
4) The Ole-Ken Hotel
The Ole-Ken Hotel is a fairly new hotel located within Nakuru CBD, a minute’s drive from Westside Mall. It’s huge, classy, and most importantly, affordable. Whether you’re having a meal at their restaurant, grabbing a drink from the bar, or staying in their deluxe rooms, you get the feeling that everything is well thought through and you feel there’s value for your money.
5) The Midland Hotel
The Midland Hotel is one of the first hotels to be built in Nakuru. It was put up at the time when the railway was being constructed, passing through Nakuru. It’s so popular that it’s often used as a reference point when figuring out which part of Nakuru CBD you’re in. It was recently renovated and looks classy. The way it’s designed, once you step into the hotel, you forget that you’re in the middle of the CBD. It’s so spacious!
6) Merica Hotel
Merica Hotel is arguably the most famous hotel in Nakuru. It’s located opposite Maasai Market (you’re bound to find tourists buying souvenirs every other time). Whenever you go past the hotel, you’ll find tourist vans or cars belonging to dignitaries parked. Inside the hotel, there’s a stand-out wall that has 4 huge clocks each reading the times of a different city in the world. The hotel is classy, the service is top-notch, and it’s conveniently located in the heart of Nakuru CBD.
7) Top Cliff Lodge
Top Cliff Lodge has one of the best locations for a hotel in Nakuru. It’s located approximately 10 minutes from Nakuru CBD, on top of a hill that overlooks Lake Nakuru. The decor is rustic and the grounds are well manicured. Having your meal on the terrace and taking in the view of the lake is a feeling like no other.
8) Taidy’s Suites
Taidy’s Suites is one of the oldest hotels in Nakuru. It’s located within Nakuru CBD and you’d think that would mean that it’s compact. On the contrary, it’s spacious and has a number of rooms, a restaurant on the rooftop terrace, and a lounge. What blows my mind is how they’ve set up their parking space. It’s a vertical parking system, meaning you dive your car into a small lot on the ground floor, then they use a lift to move your car into a parking lot inside the building. Also, you get a view of Lake Nakuru from the restaurant and the rooms.
9) Kivu Resort
Kivu Resort is a huge hotel located approximately 3km from Nakuru CBD and 500m from Lake Nakuru. The landscaping will make you forget that you’re in a city. The resort sits on huge tracks of manicured lawns that have palm trees surrounding the whole place. It’s fairly affordable and has an almost Olympic-sized pool at your disposal.
10) Buraha Zenoni Hotel and Resort
Buraha Zenoni is a fairly new hotel located on the outskirts of Nakuru City. You can easily see it from the Nakuru-Nairobi highway because of its towering design. It oozes class starting from the restaurant, to the lounge, and the rooms. They’ve also hung art pieces on every wall imaginable. The rooms are spacious and well-furnished. The restaurant is on the rooftop terrace with a stunning view. There’s a pool at your disposal, and the food is well prepared. There’s also a kids’ play area with swings, slides, and a bouncing castle.
I am a charismatic 23-year-old student at the University of Nairobi. I enjoy traveling be it planned or impromptu. I also enjoy partying. I'll be there with a drink in my cup all through the night, chasing the sun. Life's too short not to choose the fast lane. Carpe diem!
