Java House, commonly referred to as ‘Nairobi Java’,opened its first store in 1999 at Adam’s Arcade in Nairobi. With the aim of introducing gourmet coffee drinking culture in Kenya, the first outlet was a coffee shop and later the brand evolved to an American diner style restaurant to its present-day status as a 3 -day part coffee-led, casual dining concept.

Java House is now one of the leading coffee brands in Africa and has grown to have outlets in 14 cities across 3 countries in East Africa (Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda). It has also birthed two sister brands Planet Yoghurt, a healthy, tasty and fun frozen yogurt store and 360 Degrees Pizza, a casual dining restaurant.

“Welcome to Java. A home away from home”

Our coffee houses would not be what they are without the effort, commitment, and passion of the Java House team who make sure each branch is a place where everyone feels at home. Quality and professionalism are deeply rooted in our culture and we ensure that every cup poured and every plate served is a reflection of our promise of offering only the best.

Java House is the most known coffee house in Kenya and East Africa. The first outlet was a coffee house, Intending to introduce gourmet coffee drinking culture in Kenya. Later, the brand evolved into an American diner-style restaurant to its present-day status. So I decided to visit the Argwings Kodhek Road Shell Service Station restaurant. The ambiance and décor are okay. I arrived at the restaurant early in the morning for a good breakfast and worked with my laptop. I ordered a fruit salad with added nuts, honey, yogurt, and a breakfast combo. Nicely did the food presentation. It was delicious, and so was the treatment. I also ordered a café latte. It was great, and the smell of it was terrific. The coffee prepared here is unique. You will enjoy the taste, and you will feel the coffee. My waiter was so friendly and cooperative. I would recommend this restaurant for small meetings, gatherings, and single travelers.

When I think of java I have alot of memories of being a kid and take there for the smiley face pancakes with a milkshake that was hugeee and so tasty. Over the years o cannot count how many chocolate fudge cake slices I have had that’s a 1 in a million cake the sponge so so moist and the chocolate fudge oh my its is just everything that the best chocolate cake could be. Please don’t go there or order one slice for 2 or more people get your own slice cos you will devour it in 1 sitting get a bottle of water with is cos its super rich. From the food menu, the java breakfast is a nice hearty potion of a full English breakfast very tasty but you must have it there and fresh. I’m not a fan of the chicken pie but the chicken and cheese sandwich is really tasty as well as the croissants. The coffee is also very nice it’s just perfect actually always with the right amounts of everything the frapaccino is perfect for nairobi hot afternoons or a nice scoop of ice cream. They have started selling these bags of cookies you must get yourself the biggest bag of the java love cookies you ca thank me later. And have it them with a cup of tea or coffee. They are amazing. The staff is always so nice and welcoming always happy and make you feel so welcomed even if they are busy.

It is located in Adams Arcade, a few minutes’ drive from the CBD. As usual, whenever we travel and aren’t sure where to eat, we always go to Java. They have really good staff who are very friendly. They showed us to our table and once we had decided on what to eat, the food did not take more than 15 minutes. The ambiance is great. We choose to sit outside because the heat was something else. The breeze was heaven sent. I always know what to get when I’m at Java; mushroom fillet steak with a side of fries that goes for KES1090. I also love their fresh cold orange juice that goes for KES220. It tastes like a dip in the pool on a hot day. We all enjoyed our meal. We had the chocolate fudge cake as dessert. I still salivate thinking about it. Java is the home for consistency when it comes to taste and ambiance.

Java house is a chain of restaurants that is all over east Africa. They have majority of branches in Kenya. Java always feels like home. Their ambience is warm with a rustic touch to it. The music they play is quite calming and mostly slow jazz. They all have the same décor across the country. I usually like to sit in the booths as there is more privacy that way .I’m always super excited to find a java when traveling but I usually go to the branch in Adams Arcade. An uber from town is 400KES. There are other branches in other areas e.g garden city, TRM, hurlinghum among others. There is always a java near you. Their service is really good and you do not have to wait long before you are served. Their staff are very friendly and always willing to assist.. Java is well known for their coffee and cakes. Their Chocolate Fudge cake is a must try tbh. Best by far I’ve ever had. The prices are very fair with a meal for 2 people being around 2500KES. They also have managed to make their food standard no matter where in the country you are. My go to place for a solo date at the corner reading my favorite book.

I know I’ll have a good stay at any town when I find a java!! You see Java is the place I go to when i want to clear my mind. The ambience is good and feels like home. I always order my favourite milkshake -salted caramel which goes for 470KES. My meal here is never complete without it. I have to give it a 5/5. Java is the kind of place you go to on solo dates..read a book… rethink your life choices??.  I usually sit there for hours on my laptop(the wifi is good) or with a good book. The music they play is calming. It also works for a group of friends, family and even kids (the have the baby seats). They have consistently great meals. The service is amazing with always ready to help waiters. The menu is diverse and they have avocado in most of the meals I like!!! Their CAKES!! You have not been to java if you haven’t tried their chocolate fudge cake! It’s so moist. So chocolatey. The mushroom steak is very flavorful and juicy. My tastebuds were going nuts. The grilled fish is a must eat here. The loaded fries is quite good too. Their burgers are not crazy good but they are quite tasty. Their portions are good so value for money. It’s also quite affordable with a full meal plus drinks at not more than 1500KES per person. You can literally find them anywhere. Make sure you try the Salted caramel-you wont regret it!. Also they have different offers every week. Literally 50% off on different meals. You have no excuse.

Java Love

4/ 5

Java House is a chain of coffee houses with so many branches all around Kenya. It’s very cozy and warm. A perfect ideal place for casual meetings as well as official meetings. Pricing for their food is very fair. Portions always leave me full. I enjoy going there for their cold drinks: sundaes, milkshakes as well as their cakes which are my favourite.

They have a menu on their website. Coffee usually goes for 170-370 kshs, their legendary java shakes from 420 -460kshs, cakes range from 190 -370kshs, sundaes for around 600kshs, and their full java breakfast goes for 740-820kshs. I have personally never had a full meal here but I once had their loaded fries which is a new addition to the menu and I’m yet to eat better-loaded fries. The cheese was so heavy and the chicken, as well as beef pieces, were added so sparingly I loved it. The loaded fries were about 1000kshs. Rate them at 4/5.
