New Year’s Eve is almost here and as is custom, many Kenyans will be heading to the coast to celebrate the holiday. Many festivals are usually hosted at the coast during this period to capitalize on the influx of revellers. The parties range from beach parties and club bashes to weekend-long festivals. The large selection of parties can be overwhelming, especially for someone new to the coast. So, I have made A “New Year’s Eve Event Guide For The Kenyan Coast (2022/2023)” to help you navigate the parties.
1. Beneath The Baobabs

Hosted in the heart of a baobab forest next to a creek, this is one of the most anticipated festivals in East Africa. Every year the festival runs from 30th December into the New Year, providing thousands of revellers with two days and two nights of unfettered fun. Beneath The Baobab has a rich history. From very humble beginnings 7 years ago when Beneath The Baobab was a small electronic music party held on a beach volleyball court, it has grown into a behemoth of a festival attracting more than ten thousand attendees from all over the world. The festival caters to all music tastes, with the DJs playing Afro-house, EDM, Hip Hop, Amapiano and Afro-pop. Tickets to this year’s festival cost KSh7500 for East African Citizens, KSh10000 for Kenyan residents, and KSh12000 for non-citizens. Click here for tickets.
2. So Fire Fiesta – Ruger

Three months after his electric performance in Meru, Ruger will be back in Kenya on the 28th of December at Wild Waters, Nyali. Ruger is one of the biggest upcoming Afrobeat artists, with every new single becoming a global hit. Regular tickets to So Fire Fiesta cost KSh2000 and VIP tickets cost KSh5000. With such friendly prices, I expect the event to sell out quickly. Click here for tickets.
3. BEACHLIFE NYE 2023

On the 31st of December pack your beachwear and sunglasses and head to Safari Beach Hotel, Diani for an epic beach party. The event will have two stages: an electronic stage headlined by Mikhail Kuzi, Barney Barrow and Drazen; and an Urban Stage headlined by DJ Grauchi, G-Money and Kaneda. Tickets are KSh3000. Click here for tickets.
4. Hakuna Matata Pwani

Hakuna Matata Pwani will be held at the beautiful Butterfly Pavilion at Bamburi Rd, Mombasa. The event is organized by Homeboyz and will be held on New Year’s Eve. Early bird tickets cost KSh2000 for regular admission and KSh6000 for VIP, advance tickets cost KSh3000 for regular admission and KSh 7000 for VIP, and gate tickets are KSh4000. There are no VIP gate tickets. Click here for tickets.
5. The Hunter’s Cider Amapiano Tour

This will be the other event held at Butterfly Pavilion on New Year’s Eve. The event will run concurrently with Homeboyz’ Hakuna Matata Pwani from 2.00 pm on 31st December to 2.00 am on New Year’s Day. So, be careful when buying gate tickets for either event. However, tickets for The Hunter’s Cider Amapiano Tour are considerably cheaper at KSh800. Click here for tickets.
6. Mombasa New Year Party

This three-day event will be held from the 30th of December to the 1st of January 2023. At first glance, the KSh8500 ticket price seems expensive. However, the deal includes transport, accommodation and meals on half-board. These extras make it a good deal. Click here for tickets.
This closes out my “New Year’s Eve Event Guide For The Kenyan Coast (2022/2023)”. I’m finding it hard to choose between Beneath The Baobabs or BEACHLIFE NYE 2023. So, see you at one, or maybe both😉.
