December is finally here, and as is customary, Nairobians will be partying from the 1st to the 31st of the month. To quench Nairobians thirst for partying, event organisers and the Nairobi County Government have organised festivals to entertain city dwellers. Some of the biggest international and local artists will be headlining these events. And I expect this to be one of the best December holidays since the start of the pandemic. To help you navigate through this party season, I have made an “Events Guide For The Top Events in Nairobi – December 2022 ”. Most of the good events fall on the 17th of December, which is incidentally the same weekend as Kenyatta University’s and The University of Nairobi’s graduations. It’s going to be a party-filled weekend so chose your party wisely.
1. Jameson Connects Kenya
Happening at Tatu City on the 17th of December, this is one of the most anticipated events. Rumour has it that Major Lazer will be performing. However, the event organizers haven’t released the lineup yet. So, we’ll be waiting with bated breath for Major Lazer to be in the line-up. I have attended every single Major Lazer and Diplo concert in Nairobi, and in my opinion, they are the best performers to have graced a Kenyan stage. The Advanced tickets are going for KSh2500 and VIP tickets are KSh4000. Gate tickets are KSh 3500. Click here for tickets.
2. Sol Fest
Sol Fest has become one of the most popular concerts in Kenya over the last few years. Organized by Sol Generation, one of the most popular Record Labels in Kenya, this festival’s lineup includes all the heavyweights from the label. This year’s lineup will include Sauti Sol, Nviiri the Storyteller, and Bensoul among other artists. The event will be held at Fox Drive-In on Thika Road on the 17th of December. Sol Fest has the potential to be Nairobi’s Top Event this December. Regular Tickets are going for KSh 3500 and VIP Tickets KSh 10000. Click here for tickets.
3. NSG live in Kenya – Major Festival
NSG’s concert at Ngong Racecourse was one of my favourite concerts last year, and on 11th December they’ll be doing it again at Impala Grounds. Regular early bird tickets are going for KSh2500, VIP Ksh5000 and VVIP KSh7000. Click here for tickets.
4. Prince Kaybee – The Winning Post
Amapiano fever has hit Nairobi like a storm, and The Winning Post being at the forefront of this musical revolution will be bringing another international DJ on 18th December. Prince Kaybee is one of the biggest DJs in the world with several MTV Awards. His songs are popular all over the world and Gugulethu and Charlotte are among my Top 100 favourite songs of all time. Prince Kaybee tickets will be going for KSh2000. Click here for tickets.
5. The Culture – The Winning Post
Another Amapiano event on The Winning Post’s calendar this December is “The Culture”. They will be hosting three famous South African artists on the 10th. MFR Souls (the famous duo best known for the hit song Amanikiniki) and Record Producer Josiah De Discipline from the famous JazziDisciples will be the headliners. Brandy Maina will be the local artist headlining this event. Her song, Kuna Kuna is one of Kenya’s biggest jams this year. With such a lineup, who would want to miss this event? Advance Tickets are KSh1500, and gate tickets KSh2500. Click here for tickets.
6. Afro Tribez – The Winning Post
The final event on The Winning Posts calendar this December will be Afro Tribez. Happening on 23rd December the event headlines will include both House DJs and Amapiano DJs. The house DJs will be DROMMER, BIG NYAGZ, and FOOZAK & EUGGY. The Amapiano DJs will be MGM, IV PANIK, and HANUMAN. Die Hard Advanced tickets are currently going for KSh1500. Click here for tickets.
7. Nairobi City Festival
Nairobi’s newly elected governor Johnson Sakaja has announced the inaugural Nairobi City Festival. This festival will be held every year to celebrate the vibe of the city. This year’s festival will be happening from 12th December to 17th December. The last major festival to be organized by the Government of Nairobi was the Koinange Street Carnival in 2007. Koinange Street, in the heart of Nairobi City, was completely shut down for the Carnival. From what I have been told, it was one of the best events of the year. Back then I was a pre-teen and couldn’t attend for obvious reasons. I can’t wait to see what The Governor manages to pull off. Nairobi is a tough crowd, I wish him the best.
8. Gordon’s Funfair
Organized by Gordon’s, this event will be hosted at The Waterfront Mall in Karen on the 3rd of December. Ticket prices are KSh2500. Each ticket admits two people and is redeemable for any 700ml Gordon’s variant. Unfortunately, they haven’t released a lineup but it’s an amazing deal and any Gordon’s fans will be getting value for their money. Click here for tickets.
9. Totally Sold Out (TSO)
Totally Sold Out is an annual gospel event held on the 31st of December at KICC Grounds from 7 pm all the way into the New Year at dawn. Homeboyz organize the event and it features top acts in the gospel scene locally and internationally. Early Bird ticket prices are KSh1000, Advance tickets KSh1200 and Gate tickets KSh1500. Click here for tickets.
10. Urban Retro Festival
Urban Retro Festival is a weekend festival that consists of music, barbecues, drinks and art. The event will also have a Motor-Show that will entail a display of unique classics, bikes, mid-aged and modern performance and high-end luxury cars all in one place. The Festival will be held at Stedmak Gardens, Karen on 4th December. Advanced tickets are KSh1000, and gate tickets KSh1500. Click here for tickets.
